Some of you will know it already. Not directly about gender, but about truth and appearance. It is by the English poet, John Masefield.

An Epilogue

I have seen flowers come in stony places,
And kind things done by men with ugly faces,
And the Gold Cup won by the worst horse at the races,
So I trust, too.

John Masefield (1878-1967) was British Poet Laureate from 1930 until his death. His work is now rather neglected, quite unjustly. Probably his two best known poems are 'Cargoes' and 'Sea Fever'; he also wrote longer, narrative poems and novels.
