I find it difficult to believe, that all in all this was wisely done.

This is so depressing for so many reasons. These folks didn't need suicide. They needed help. This 'doctor' is sick, sick, sick.

... Nancy/Nathan, Her/His Family, the medical professionals and then what is worse the government agencies faild that child, in the UK we call it Social Services, I believe in the US DCFS, The Department of Child and Family Services.
To condemn the doctor for assisted suicide is wrong!!
Nancy/Nathan was MENTALY ABUSED for many years, and decided that to get what S/he needed most from the people closest, which was to have a Loving, Caring and Nururing environmrnt to grow up in, was to become someone else.
S/he was quoted "While my brothers were celebrated, I got a storage room above the garage as a bedroom. 'If only you had been a boy', my mother complained. I was tolerated, nothing more."
In many ways this is the MIRROR IMIAGE of the story far to many trans people experience.
To quote myself 'To condemn the doctor for assisted suicide is wrong!!' If you had asked me just over a decade ago I would have said Assisted Suicide was wrong, but after watching someone very close to me dying from 'MOTOR NEURON DISEASE'..
After reading that news report I am left with this question being shouted at me...
'Was Nancy/Nathan really suffering from GID or was s/he craving acceptance from her/his family?'
As this quote from Nancy/Nathan "I was ready to celebrate my new birth," he told the newspaper. "But when I looked in the mirror, I was disgusted with myself. My new breasts did not match my expectations and my new penis had symptoms of rejection. I do not want to be... a monster. ", leaves me thinking of something a young woman that has mutilated her body would say!!
Are we sure this is not murder.
I feel this is may have been murder by the state.
With the state considering it cheaper to convince the victim that corrective surgery not could be an option, and push the victim to suicide.
I can understand suicide after all other options have been exhausted, which does not seem to be the case here.
I believe all had been done at the end of the case ...
... Therapy is always important, the right kind, but it has to be from the begining, even not knowing all of the details of the case, I think that the therapists missed the real underlying cause for Nancy wanting FtM transision, that being her family wanting another male child.
If this was the case she went through with the transition had all that made her her stripped away, then I think was rejected again by her family!! after this agaain she had six months of therapy, MtF transition wouldn't have helped as the family wanted a male child.
As I said earlier this child was failed by the state, medical professionals and family from birth. This child was continualy told you are not good enough because you are female!!
If only the therapists had dug a little deeper and found out that fron an early age she had been bombarded with comments like 'If only you had been a boy' and was I belive the quote was 'I was tolerated, nothing more', to be meerly tolerated, and just because you were born, by those that are supposed to love you UNCONDITIONALY is beyond appauling.
If state sanctioned suicide IMHO isn't the issue here, the issue is the FAILIURE of the Psychologists, Psychiatrists and Counsilors at the outset in not finding out that the child was MENTALY ABUSED from an early age, and as this was not done the correct government\state agencies could not help.

I can't believe that in six months of counselling that the reasons for his/her problems didn't come out. However, that may then have shown all the surgery was a mistake and the individual was pursuing the wrong course, which would then have been very difficult to change back.
I agree that the problem was created by the family and have known others take their own lives because they were screwed up by parents, especially mothers, and they weren't GID.
Some people are just not suitable as parents perhaps because they were abused themselves or live in a culture which undervalues certain groups on grounds of sex or caste or race etc.

Has the doctor tried euthanasia on himself he seem to be free handed to offer that final option to others very quickly. That is barbaric in the Usa terminal cncar patient in great apin can not get that option even knowing they will die the cancer patient needs to suffer to the bitter and painful end of life.

I lost a brother through terminal-cancer euthanasia--it CAN be done. It wasn't officially sanctioned, but it was possible. (He had AIDS, which had progressed to brain cancer, which was killing him. He chose the euthanasia, and spoke to his family to say goodbye, the day he left us. I was devastated, but I think he made the right decision.)

... WILL come as the whole worlds Medical Community will be waiting for the results of the 'Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) conference' of this case.
And it'll have consequences in many feilds in the medical community.
One I can see is that if even posthumously the M&M board finds that Nacy\Nathan was put forward for Gender Reassignment for the WRONG reasons.
Namely INCORRECT diagnosis of GID by the Psychologists and Psychiatrists.
And NOT diagnosing 'Psychalogical ABUSE'
The exsiting procedures will be made MORE sringent.
