Last July I revisited Aviano Air Base north of Venice, Italy. We spent three days driving around the area, and spent one day following The Prosecco Road in the Treviso Province of the Veneto to the west of Aviano. It is beautiful country. We found the vineyards where the grapes of our favorite prosecco are grown. We also learned the hard way about the changes in European cars that have not reached North America. One being that the engine stops when you come to a full stop. For two days I had to deal with a 'malfunctioning' vehicle that insisted on stalling at the most unfortunate times, e.g. toll gates and stop lights. Late during our second day I remembered that I had read about the change that shut off the engine, and all one had to do to restart the engine was to press the accelerator. All went great after that.

When I posted "Soaring With Eagles" I mentioned that I intended to go to the restaurants mentioned in the story, in particular, Part 5. Well, we found some very nice restaurants. Our first evening there, we went to Pogue Mahone's, an Irish Pub. We had a major thunder storm and hail storm that lasted about 30 minutes. It was a very nice restaurant/pub, but I realized it didn't fit the image I wanted for the restaurant where the ball players went after the ball game where Angie runs into Max Grave whom she hadn't seen since the Air Force Academy. The problem was solved our second night when we went to San Giorgio's a large family restaurant popular with the Americans and Italians. The back room was perfect for the scene in the story. So, this morning I edited part five and changed the restaurant name and a little of the scenery: nothing big. We did not get back to Al Lido in Pordenone. A restaurant known for excellent sea food.

If any of you are retired military, and have a chance to go to the Veneto Region north of Venice, reserve a room at Mountain View Lodge on Aviano Air Base. They have two-room suites for under $60.00 a night. Aviano Air Base is very convenient for making day trips all over the region.
