So, I just went into a fast food place in a town of about 25,000 in a very conservative part of Texas. Heading to the loo, I saw a women's room, but there was a sign placed over the usual "men's" plaque on the other door. On the sign, in magic marker, was the word "UNISEX".
I was impressed. This sign makes it possible for trans people to use the toilet safely. In a small country burg.
But, there's still a ways to go for full equality. I can't help but think of all those poor male BI-sexuals.
They can't use the women's, nor the UNI-sex one!

Unisex loos
I bet they had complaints that the line for the ladies loo was too long! The sign means that if they are desperate they can make a break for the men's.
What the men think of it is another matter, of course...

At home there is usually only one washroom for men and women. Go figure.
Three restrooms?
Local pizza parlor has three restrooms, and all the signs just say "Restroom."
What SF story was it that had a bar with three rest rooms and the signs read, "Oozers," "Dribblers" and "Spritzers" or some such? And all the bathroom doors opened into the same room. :)

I think the third bathroom in the clusters say Family/Unisex
But then it is in Madison and a public convection/meeting place.
And very attractive. The exterior is something like 95% as Frank Lloyd Wright designed it some 40 years before Madison finally built it. The interior was done largely by one of his students but he did have notes from Wright. And they went with materials and a style similar to Wright's other public buildings of the late 1950s such as the Marin County Courthouse. Updated to modern electronics, ventilation and all that.
Even has a bicycle elevator for the local bicycle trail system.
Relatively alt gender friendly and pedestrian friendly all-in-all. Except for some in our capitol but then they mostly worship money and are more or less harmless. Baby steps.

they are becoming more common
UniSex or Family restrooms are becoming much more common. They are nice for us trans-women, but I see them more as a functional changing station where you can lock your mobile children in as well. Consequently, I prefer the Ladies, and leave the others to who need them the most.
I guess I have been lucky so far. Last year, a trans-woman in a Dallas hospital had the police called on her for going in the women's restroom. My experience, once I got over the terror, is that as long as I am doing what everyone else is, then it is fine.
