Cool story
I was hoping for 'Nightbringer' though but this is a hallmark Bek story with the usual smart alecky main character we all love. There are other parts coming up hopefully.

Saw that
Went to Crystal Hall early this morning and saw that. Trying to figure out why a non-Whateley story was posted there, even if it's by her. Don't they have a forum for fan fic and stuff?
Greatly disappointed no new Whateley stories this week. Want to know what is happening to Phase/Ayla.

Well, usually the 'library'
Well, usually the 'library' stories are posted on Wednesday, and canonical stories on Sunday. I guess that because she hasn't been that active, they decided to put her post on Sunday instead. Either that, or didn't want two Ayla's in a row.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
It's been done before...
Bek's "Anathema" was also occasionally posted on a Sunday when there wasn't anything else in the queue. I think there are several stories that have been completed, but are currently embargoed for publication because they take place after March 2007 (which is where the current crop of stories are based).
Still, I noticed through looking at the timeline that Ayla 9 is currently only a week away from the arrival of Josie, Suzan, Ecila and Schrodinger (the Abyss crew) - that's going to cause fun on campus :D
As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!
It's their site
So they can do what they want. I consider myself lucky just to be able to read them. With that said, I don't much care what the timeline is. I like to read the writing about Whately and the kids. The Advancer just doesn't seem up to par for the quality of writing or perhaps it's just that I don't care much for the characters and plot. I wasn't expecting something else so maybe any "not a Whately" story was going to be a disappointment. I think I started reading just a couple of months before the crash and so never had to deal with being "caught up" rather than being "caught up in" the WU stories. It's hard enough waiting as it is and I got spoiled by being able to read them as fast as I could read. Then read them over again a couple of times and finally got to the point where I only read my favorites over again now. I don't think there's any series of stories that I've enjoyed as much as the W.U. stories in my 50+ years of reading. Maybe the lensmen stories when I was a kid, and the Heinlein stories when they were new, but the memories of those are faded with time and the enjoyment of these is fresh and memorable. Great writing and, and, ah darn, I'm not built to use the big sad puppy dog eyes. My new dog Jack could do it. I think he's a combo Jack Russel Terrier and Chihuahua. He bounces. He's as enthusiastic about going outside as I am about getting a new story about the W.U...
I've read Fate a couple of times and just finished part 7 of Anathema and came here looking for Nightbringer, hoping against hope. No such luck.

PS: If I understand Binary, I graduated from High School back in 1000101 and for awhile I thought about getting that as my personalized license plate. I had better things to spend my money on though.
PPS: It about broke my heart to learn that Maggie has sworn off writing any more W.U. stories and that Starwolf is leaving as well. I despair of ever learning what happens to Fey and Tennyo other than second hand in the remaining author's stories. I hope it's just to write other stories in other universes and not anything we, her fans have done or said.

It's the Authors
I enjoy the Whateley universe and the cast of characters. However part of the reason why is the ensemble cast of writers who keep it going.
So if we have a break in the Sunday posting until the timeline catches up, I have no problem at all with Bek slipping in something else.
I love Bek's stuff and would dearly love to see more of certain characters from past stories. The Exalted Universe stuff is fun as well as this new one of hers too! Urban fantasy with Bek's humor and skill with words? SOLD!
I'm just hoping the story is mostly already finished so Bek's muse can't hijack her attention for yet another story universe!
Those darn muses! Worse than herding cats! :)

Yep and I am waiting very patiently for exalted stuff
... to come back. Nightbringer sounds like it will be a cool read.
