I went to see my lawyer this morning, really just to sign the motion for him to get the case dismissed. The state came back this morning with another offer, removing two of the charges against me. I decided to not risk 15 years in prison and instead settle on 6 months probation. The probation doesn't have me attending any classes or effect my life in any way other than to mail in something every month saying that I am alive.
There is still a pending investigation going on in the other matter but the lawyer is in agreement that since they haven't done anything in 5 months that probably nothing was going to come of it. I may, after probation is over, sell my house and move to a state that has easier laws on sex offenders... especially if there is someone willing to help me. Nevada has a much better system, where my face wouldn't be plastered over the internet, maybe someone there would like to give an author a home until I find a paper route and another house. Does Nevada have ghettos?
Anyway, as long as this plea goes through (DA has to get it approved by their boss) I'm glad this part of the mess is over.

It's sad, because their willingness to drop almost all the charges is evidence that they'd realised their case was specious, and they knew that they weren't likely to get a conviction unless they had a moron judge that wouldn't toss it out, and twelve drooling morons from the local mental redardation facility on the jury.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Yeah all over email addresses that she never had in the first place. Seems stupid and I wish she had chosen to fight it. make them prove they were her addresses in court. But its easy to say that from my position it isnt my ass on the line.
But then perhaps they would had falsified evidence to show it was hers and coers testimony from people. Hey its been done before.

All this crap because someone played a prank on you as a teenager. This sounds like you sort of won the best deal that you could make and I don't blame you for wanting out of the state , you would think that they have better and more important things to don't then go after K.T. over trivial B.S. like not registering before you moved in to your house.

Before you finalize the deal, and before you move, please talk to your attorney about how the three strikes laws in your current state and any state to which you might move could affect you. If both of your plea bargains resulted in you pleading guilty to felonies, in some places it wouldn't take much at all to get you a third strike and life in prison. I'm NOT trying to talk you out of it. I want to make sure that you are aware of the possible long term ramifications. Good luck.

However it seems like a good site to learn whatever information one needs to move forward in this or similar cases.
With FLA being a 3 strike state, that becomes a major concern for Katie's safety and future.
I'm am trying to offer in helpful information as I come across it.
Maybe I'm Wrong...
But I'm inclined to doubt that anything that can lead to a sentence of just six months probation could be classified as a felony. (Besides, I think that in most three-strikes states -- certainly in Calfornia where I live -- there's an enhancement on the second qualifying felony that lengthens the sentence.)
