... have been found out!
Someone (i.e. SOMEONE - *wink wink*) scattered carpet tacks on the road during an ascent on the Tour de France which caused at least 30 punctures.
No wonder there has been a deafening silence recently.

Considering the seriousness of the possible consequences ...
Sorry I just think acts of sabotage against people are not fit subjects for humour. I've had a blow-out on my rear tire while riding. Thank goodness I'm not fast enough for it to have caused me to spill. Those cycle racers are going fast enough for spills to be life threatening.
NOT FUNNY!!!!!!! In ANY WAY.

Once in a while I bare my soul, more often my soles bear me.
In fact ...
... one rider did fall and sustained a broken collar bone. The tacks were long enough to cause punctures in a motor cycle and at least one car from what I saw when watching the highlights on the ITV Player on my PC this evening.
You're right, it's a bloody stupid and dangerous thing to do quite apart from being childish. It can only be a silly prank as no protest group has claimed any responsibility. You should be glad your punctures have been in the rear wheel - much more frightening and more difficult to control when in the front of a two-wheeled vehicle and I've had them on both motor and pedal cycles.
I was pleased that Brad, as the current race leader, exercised the authority his position warrants and effectively neutralised the race until Cadel Evans rejoined the peloton.
