Hello,
Today is the Queen’s official birthday, and as usual we have the Birthday honours list. What may be surprising is that amongst those recognised is April Ashley
She was awarded the MBE for services to the Transgendered community. For once the Daily Wail tells it straight and even the best rated comments are positive. Here’s the link:

It's nice to see ordinary people get gongs, not just sports and the arts and bloody politicians.

She's hardly ordinary.
In fact I would label her extraordinary. I remember surreptitiously buying copies of the News of the World when her story was serialised. I was 22 and I thought she was beautiful and fortunate to be so ... whereas I could never be. It's marvellous she's been recognised officially.
I saved the cuttings illustrated in the link above and threw them out when I got married 5 years later in a fit of guilt.
