Two of them, actually. The first one is fairly recent. Guy turns into a girl, and because mom made him play dolls with his little sister, (s)he has an addiction to pink.
Second one is much older. Guy tells best friend he is going to a different college than the two of them had planned, and the friend gets all upset and feels betrayed. Second part is from an outside viewpoint, and it seems everybody else thinks he is actually a girl. One calls his pack a "hobo bag" which is a style of purse. Oh, first guy is a transfer student, small build, long hair, kinda fem-looking face.

The first one sounds like "Twisted Pink" by Morpheus. It's actually a really old one. I've been reposting Morpheus's stories here with his permission.

If that is the one (I'm pretty confident it is, but you can never be too sure). You might want to check out his other stories in that universe. "Twisted" and "Hair and Now" and my more flawed story "Virtually Twisted". It was my first attempt at a story and it does show, but if you can overlook it's flaws you might like it. Especially if you like "Twisted Pink"

It's not? It sounds awfully similar. I really hope someone isn't stealing ideas from Morpheus. Of course, maybe I'm just jumping the shark it could merely be a matter of coincidence.

Nope!
Not even close! In the story I'm thinking of, the boy is older and a mutant, but it's not a Whatley or retcon story.
