See, the problem is..
The problem is that the bigots seem to have a LOT of $$$$ and are not afraid to use it. Quite a few of the opponents of same-sex marriage are only opposed out of fear (my personal opinion). I'd be willing to bet that many of the opponents really couldn't care less (care more?) one way or the other, and use negative rhetoric to shift focus from things that are more important!
