UPDATE: 11:29 AM ET:

The Maine Senate has just joined the House in rejecting a bill that would have repealed protections for transgender people under the Maine Human Rights Act. LD 1096 would have allowed restaurants and schools to adopt their own policies for restroom use and stripped away the ability of transgender people to file discrimination lawsuits if they were denied access to a rest room that did not correspond with their biological sex.

The Senate voted 23 to 11 to reject the measure, which Democratic Sen. Phil Bartlett of Gorham called imean spirited, potentially discriminatory and unworkable."

Wow! Great news!

And Maine is a place where I would have expected them not to be terribly in favor of trans rights, too! Nice dose of hope there!

I guess that was no case of

I guess that was no case of we want more trans rights, but a classical case of this crap is most certainly not worth the trouble it will cause... Live and let live, but let us the fuck alone with your intolerant crap.

Seriously, I think this happened because politicians were lazy and feared bad publicity.

I guess it is a victory against stupidity and bigotry anyway.

That "party"...

...originally called itself the "Teabaggers", until someone (foolishly) pointed out what else that term means. Then they tried to run away from it as fast as they could trip over each other, and to re-write history to say that they never had. *sigh* Oh well. I still get plenty of mileage out of it, and the additional stupidity they spew near-continuously. >.>
