Shall I put the popular stories thingie back? I'll have to do surgery on it since it used the votes and they aren't available now, so it will just be based on hits.

To be honest, I don't miss it, nor do I remember ever using it. I don't use "popularity" to determine what I'm going to read.

While I think the votes thing was done with good intention, I also think that it caused undue pain to the writers here who attract a relatively narrow audience.

Actually I like to think I attract a "quite nice-looking" audience, maybe even a "sexy" audience, now that I think about it.
Although some of them might be striving to become a bit thinner, I can't imagine any of them want to be considered "narrow".
