I thought I'd say this formally, then if it pops out in conversation no one will be shocked (although to quote Maggie Thatcher, who is probably the opposite of everything I believe in, may shock some).
I have a baby grandson born yesterday by Caesarean section. Mother and baby are doing well as is the father, my son.
I'm far too young to be a granny, but se la vie!
(Does this mean I have to start wearing long black dresses, sitting in a rocking chair while knitting for the Red Cross? If so, bugger that for a game of sojers, I'll stick with riding and writing Bike(s)).

That’s life!
C’est la vie?
The cycle of life—just a different kind of bike!
Congratulations to all involved.

So, they figured....
it out did they... Kids seem to do that all the time. Amazing, isn't it. Luckily my oldest is holding out! I'm far to young to be a granny. And, you're not much older, so you're obviously too young... How is it that our little babies get old enough to have kids of their own, but we don't get much older? Something funny here.
That said, Congrats on becoming a grandmother. Hopefully you'll be given the chance to spoil the kid... It's a grandparent's prerogative - or so I was told many times.

Ydych yn mamgu!
Llongyfarchiadau!
(OK, so I cheated - I used Google Translate to obtain the translations, then a normal Google search to confirm their accuracy)
(I'm ashamed to say that despite spending five years studying in Aberystwyth, I failed to learn the lingo)
(Theoretically, the title should be "You're a grandmother!", and the body "Congratulations!")
As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!
Mam-gu
is pronounced mam-gee, with a hard g, not mam-goo! (In South Wales)
In Aber they'd have used the term 'Nain' which is a North-Wales term.

I don't believe it!
You're nobbut a young lass! Congratulations all the same :)

Congratulations...
Welcome to the club!

The first thing
you have to be sure they understand, is it's not caused by a water additive, nor is it picked up from the toilet seat. The next thing to ensure they understand is that you get to spoli the kid and they are not allowed to say anything, nor complain about it.
After that, its up to you. Grandkids are great. I have 14. I truly enjoy having them all around for the holidays, etc. (At least for about three hours, then its....
What time did you have to leave? It's so much fun to have fun with the kids and get them all riled up, and then send them home with the loved ones that gave you so much hassle when they were growing up (or is that called payback).
And last, always remember. Insanity IS inherited. You get it from the kids.
edit......Our daughter called today (03-19-2010) and announced her oldest just got engaged. She turned 19 last December. Her hubby to be is in the military doing a career as a heavy equipment mechanic/operator. Now I feel even older.

Just a little ditty to make you feel less ancient as a new granny.

P.S. First verse: My granny rides a motorcycle in the hen house, (Presumably to gather eggs) My granny is a thouroughly modern woman.
second verse: My granny has an illuminated chamberpot, (I will leave the presumption of the reason for this to the imagination) My granny is a thouroughly modern woman.

CONGRATULATIONS ANGHARAD
Thought i had better speak up now that you are a Granny (wonder what the Welsh call their Gran?) .
Guess it won't be too long before Gran is out buying a bike for her new grandson, In the meantime maybe one of those little trailers attached to the back of your bike will give him the love of bikes his Gran has.
Anyway Angharad all the best to you and your now extended family,I'm sure you will make a great Grandmother
Hugs Kirri.
Give him...
Give him expensive presents;
Give him too much to eat;
Then, give him back.
Congratulations
Grandmother in long dress?
Greetings Angharad
Don't forget the old Welsh grandmothers used to wear the tall hat, as well as the long dress. However, I think you are more likely to be in the glamourous granny category.
Best wishes to the family
