Three Stickies?!

There isn't that much real estate for listing the blog posts on the front page. It seems to me, having three sticky posts in that little left-hand column doesn't leave that much room for anyone else's post to survive for very long before scrolling off.

There is a way around the short blog list

Click on the small 'more' button at the end of the blogs, and you can access a lot of additional blogs.

Currently, I show 16 pages of blogs, at 50 to a page, dating back to last August.

And the neat thing about viewing them this way is that you get more than just the title.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

That's True, But...

...not everybody knows that trick, or bothers using it if they do.

My experience with blog postings is that once it scrolls off the front page, you get very few more views or comments, if any.

I was thinking of writing up my experience in the NYC Pride parade this last Sunday, and posting some pics. Frankly, though, if it's going to only be up for half a day, I can't see putting in the effort.

I'm working on it :)

I should have this solved today. :)

Pippa, Please

I would love to hear about your experiences and see the pictures. If your words were posted on a tiny island in the middle of the Atlantic, I would find a way to locate them, maybe.

Trick...

I never considered it to be a trick. The button says more, and I use it whenever the bottom entry is one that I haven't seen before.

I wonder if it's possible to simply make the list of blog entries longer. That will push everything under it down, but another ten lines won't take up that much real estate.

Or, the more link can be made bigger, brighter, and more obvious. Please don't make it blink, though. Ick!

(Just kidding. I know that our beloved webmistress wouldn't do that.)

Perhaps a separate block can be made for sticky/important/popular blog entries. That way, the sticky entries won't take up space in the regular block of entries. 'Important' entries can be defined as such by the powers that be, and some kind of criteria based on recent replies can be used to define 'popular' entries. (Of course, 'important' and sticky entries are pretty much the same, anyhow.)

I think it's better now

I moved two of the current stickies off the blog list and increased the number of blogs in the small list to ten. That's more than a usual day of blogs, though we have a had a few days with a dozen blogs or more. :)

Geez Erin -- How Obvious

Sometimes you seem to be sitting too close to the problem. The crux of the solution is to regulate the flow of blogs.

Let me suggest that we simply split the alphabet and assign letters to monthly numerics. e.g. those with a name staring with a - c could post on days of the month 1, 10, and 20 -- those with a name staring with d - f could post on days of the month 2, 11, and 21 -- etc.

There are some kinks. Such as those with two names, such as Angela and Jill -- would have the obvious advantage of being able to post twice as often, but it has been my experience that people with two names have much more to say.

Since I've been a highly successful businessperson and have the bonafides to prove it, I suggest you need to adopt this procedure immediately -- or ignore it entirely.

I'm almost serious about this.

Well!

All that and modest, too!

has been my experience that people with two names have much more to say.

Yea, but half the brain power once it's split between the two. ;-)

They know they can survive

All that and a Hunk

My. People come and go so quickly here. Of course, some people do go both ways. I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
