If anyone wants a series they have finished converted to PDF or into LIT format I'm willing to do the work.
PM me and email me a Word copy of the completed multipart story and I'll be happy to convert it for you.
The advantages? The story is smaller and it's more easily transported to and fro on a thumb drive, it can be sold easily and the story can't be changed or copied once in that format.

ETA: Okay, you can change PDFs if you have a couple things:
1) the full Adobe Acrobat program that allows you to make/edit PDF files
2) an unsecured PDF file.
There are security settings that will prevent you from copying/changing/printing the PDF file.
Anyhow, just saying. Sorry for the confusion.

Another MOBI fan
Chalk me up as another MOBI fan. I have the Mobipocket Reader on home and work PCs as well as my smartphone. It is available for Palm, WinMobile, Symbian and Blackberry. No Linux or Apple version yet but the format can be read on the Kindle and some of the other ePaper readers. Both the reader and Mobipocket Creator are free at the Mobipocket download site
I've converted a number of stories here and elsewhere for (personal) reading offline. The Creator software is a bit tricksy to get a cleanly formatted file with chapters correct but you may find it worth fiddling with. As with a number of things, the cleaner the input file, the better the result.
A number of sites sell books in the format, some of which are DRM free. Most also have copies of classics that are downloadable for free. Baen books even has some of their catalog available for free.
The LIT format is a Microsoft format and I'm not sure if it is readable on software other than the MS Reader.
