I'm taking a bit of a break on "Joining a club?"

I've noticed that I am not consistent in tense, the story wants to be written in first person, every time I try to write in past tense, I end up having to go back and make changes to try and keep it that way, as I change tense part way through. Please be patient with me, I'll have these corrected soon and I think the story will be much improved in the process. I've also become aware I was rushing through it too fast, in spite of knowing where the story is going, I need to take my time to be a better writer. I'll post new versions of the first chapters soon, and then I plan to have a bi-weekly posting afterwards, probably Mondays and Thursdays. Thank you all for all the great PMs, kudos and comments, I truly didn't expect to have such a warm response to this. You are all wonderful!

I feel your pain, Holly!

Inadvertent changes in person or tense can just jar people right out of a story, but it’s so easy to tangle them. You’ll be writing a story in the past tense, but your character is relating or reflecting on something that happened earlier and you find yourself having to switch to the past perfect, then back to the simple past when the reflection is done . . . . Uggh! As the Carter Cecil Jackson Distinguished Professor of Linguistics observed, language is HARD. It’s not simple rocket science. :D

Do what you need to do, but...

Do what you feel you need to do, but here's a small bit of advice from another author.

Finish writing the story first!

No one's spelling, grammar, sentence structure, present and past tense, etc are perfect, that is why we edit AFTER we have written the story.

If you stop to go back and edit mistakes every time you see one in your earlier posts you will never finish writing and posting this story.

We are now qualified to do anything with nothing.
