Sadly Queen Elizabeth 2nd has just died at 96. While it is hard for some to feel sorry for anyone with that much wealth and privilege, she always seemed to have a massive sense of duty.
We have just had a change of prime minister a few days ago. She even presided over that as best she could.
She was the only member of the family I had any respect for. It's an end of an era for many of us. Many people were born and died with her as our queen. She was Queen of England for over 70 years.

As was the case with Victoria and Edward VII, long reigns are followed by short reigns. Charles is in his 70s and rates to be succeeded by William, in the not too distant future.

Queen Elizabeth was a faithful and dutiful person serving her country as she was called upon to do. Let us treat her memory and the feelings of her family and countrymen as we would want to be treated if we lost someone so prominent and beloved in our own lives.

Thanks Erin. I'm not a monarchist. I was pogoing with the pistols singing "God save the Queen" along with the rest of the punks. As time went by, you saw someone who put her duty to her county first. There was a huge outpouring of emotion for Diana when she died. A friend of mine, had a sister who wrote a biography of Diana. The 2 months before Diana's death was mostly spent on holiday. She had 2 official engagements. The press just loved her,
Over the years, I grew to respect the Queen's obvious love for her people and dedication.
Our new King's conduct was very questionable. Conspiracy theorists believe that Prince Harry is actually the son of Diana's ex-lover James Hewitt. Hopefully, Charles has learned from his mother how to behave now.

I'm not much of a monarchist but I always had a lot of time for the Queen. She will be sorely missed- Charles has an impossible task ahead of him, so let's not prejudge him before he's even had a chance to try.

Many forget that queen Elizabeth held many titles. Some of which allowed her to rule over many things.
I can tell you that any law in any of the commonwealth countries that has been passed during her reign she approved of as she had the option of vetoing many of them. While, directly, the monarchy is virtually stripped of powers, indirectly it is still very much a thing.
Something I do not believe Charles is up to the job. Only time will tell.
Tip your hats and pay respects to her. That rock foundation many people the world over has taken for granted is gone.

A quote from others, I am by no means a Monarchist but the queen represented stability and that ability to influence political decisions without interference into the despicable area of party politics. She deserved better than those around her and I hope that they can rise to the positon. Despite the probably inaccurate press coverage of Camilla I have grown to admire her conduct, lets hope she keeps a reign on Charlie! and on a lighter note she reminds me of the headmistress of St. Trinians in the newer films! rest in peace Queenie. Brought out the grief in me from losing my own Mum 4 weeks ago.

Phillip came to me today,
and said it was time to go.
I looked at him and smiled,
as i whispered that "I know"
I then turned and looked behind me,

As an American, I thought she was one classy lady. That said, I just hope Charles will let William be King. Kate, is another classy lady, unlike Charles and Harry. That said to my friends in the Britian Commonwealth, I'm sorry and prayers to her family.

She Spent Her Teen Years In WWII
Considering what the Brits went through during WWII, it is a wonder that they all didn't have PTSD. I think she served in a Civilian sense, driving and working on Autos or something. At least she didn't cower in the bunkers. I must purchase the book about her.

Many years ago there was an amusing story about a fellow who had a flat while driving in England. A woman pulled over and fixed his tire for him. That night he saw the Queen on the news and realized it was the Queen that fixed his tire. That story made international news.
She seemed like a nice person
I liked that movie where (still a princess at the time) she snuck out on VE Day to celebrate with the commoners, although I don't know how true that was. Plus I always loved her corgis. And I always wondered where John Lydon gets off saying who's a human being or not; If you're not gonna bow to them you should at least regard them as your equal, the way George Fox (Society of Friends) did with that other George, II or III or whichever King George it was. I might feel differently if I'd grown up under a hereditary class system or as a colonial subject of some monarch's reign, but I didn't so I don't have any personal baggage about royals as an institution.
A modern day King or Queen---who isn't likely to start a war or go around having people's heads lopped off on a whim---seems like someone you can look up to as the representative of your country even when you have a reactionary jerk with a silly 3 Stooges haircut for a PM. Maybe we should get a queen over here. Someone like my favorite historical monarch: the highly educated and progressive, cross-dressing, queer as fuck Christina of Sweden!
