A few days ago, I had a really vivid dream, where I was in class (I think it was high school), and the teacher called on me. My hackles went up when he called me, "Mister Brown", and I said, "It's Miss, not Mister." When the teacher asked me why I said that, I told him it was because I was a girl, not a boy. I'm not sure where I got up the nerve to talk back like that. I think it was more because I was more angry than scared of the teacher.

When the teacher asked how I could be a girl, if I liked girls, a few other students snickered. At first, I thought it was directed at me, until I over heard a few of them whispering about how clueless the teacher was. It was then I frowned at the teacher, and told him that made me a lesbian, not a boy.

I've sorta been thinking maybe this might be the start of an interesting story, but I'm not sure where I'd go with it. I may have to think a bit more to see if I can come up with anything more.

The setting for your story might dictate the contents. A story about a young person in Texas might be very different than a story about a young person in a less barbaric state.

You should write this story. You're very good a making sense out of awkward situations.

Sounds like a good hook

Scene: High school Freshman, or sophomore English class. Boy sits in class, daydreaming out the window. Teacher calls on him using his first name and due to his daydreaming, he doesn't answer. His daydream of course is about his secret transgender desires. Then the teacher calls on him using "Mister Brown". His brain catches up and manufactures the scene you describe in a vision, complete with him/her in feminine clothing. The snickering is real because the other students know he's been daydreaming. He barely stops himself from saying what his vision did out loud.

You start the tale with him stressing over just how close he came to outing himself. You launch into a flashback of whatever lead up to this scene recounting other times he's been tempted to say something like that. But this is the first time he's come close to doing it. He admits that it's getting worse and there is a real likelihood that he'll actually slip up and do it. Then explore where he goes since it seems he's likely to out himself sooner or later.

Feeling inspired!

Think I'll give writing that story a try. Thank you both for your feedback! :)
