BBC Radio 4 broadcast a program in their "Between Ourselves" series this morning:
"Olivia O'Leary brings together two people who have had profound and similar experiences. Two spouses of transsexuals discuss how they coped with their partners' gender transition".

Couples who stay together after SRS
I was going to posta blog about this programme. I did listen to it when it was broadcast adn it was very interesting and moving.
It was about two couples, one where the husband had a sex change and became Penny and the other where the wife became Drew. Ms O'Leary talked to the partners of these two people to find out about what happened and why they stuck together as couples afterwards.
It was very thought provoking.

It was interesting that the wife of the MtF TS found the situation more bearable than the husband of the FtM. She actually confessed to realising that she was to some extent bisexual. The husband found it impossible to sleep in the same room as his former wife. However both found the experience extremely traumatic and would have preferred that the situation had never arisen - hardly surprising.

the interviewer kept repeating, as they described their difficulties in dealing
with their spouse's new genders. In the last minute both guests agreed: Love.
This was not what they'd ever expected or wanted but the person they married
was still there, and an emotional bond that enriched their lives in a way that
far outweighed what had been lost in their relationship. So sweet!
The second most noteable thing for me was when the retired policeman
discussed his transman spouse's changing personality and style,
and said the guy had taken to farting loudly as an expression
of his newfound masculinity. That's uh ..... a new one to me.

Is it really? I guess you've been spared the loudness contests, the flamethrowers (cigarette lighters held against the back of the jeans to light the methane as it passes), the rankness ratings...
None of it is as popular or as widely practiced as belching contests, but it is up there. Men love to stink. It's part of being aggressive.
