So, my 25 year old son - our youngest - starting running a fever of 100.3 last night. It’s just a low grade fever, plus he is achey and tired, but he definitely is sick. Now it could be Covid-19, or it could be the flu, or something else. We had to call it in to Public Health, but all we can do is feed him Tylenol (Paracetamol for those of you across the pond), force fluids, feed him, and keep him warm.

He was feeling better last night, thanks mostly to the Tylenol, but his fever was back this morning along with the aches. He hasn’t gotten any worse, which is good news, but he hasn’t gotten any better either.

So, all we can do is wait it out, take care of him, and hope.

As for me, I am actually feeling better. My cough seems to be pretty much gone. I am sore and tired, but that’s because I have been working my tail off the past two days cleaning. Hell, as long as I am stuck in the house, I can at least make it sparkle!

From quarantine.......

As part of my job.....

I have been tracking this since December. Not just the growth of the epidemic, but also watching the economic impact as it expanded. Due to the fact that I work in logistics, I began watching it early on.

So you're that girl in Logistics...

lots of fluids

BarbieLee's picture

fruit juices if you have it, lemonade of course, tomato juice
a stew if you can, with minced onion and garlic, which if he is sulfur intolerant that would be a no no.
soups of course, potato, or chicken or tomato would be high on my list
aspirin doesn't have the same chemical makeup as Tylenol. You can give Tylenol and two hours later give aspirin to hold down the fever
Use the knowledge your mother and grandmother gave you. They were a lot wiser than any medical doctors we have today. I wish your son a speedy recovery. Even if mom is taking care of him it isn't any fun.
Moms never get sick because they are too busy taking care of the rest of the family.

To have two doctors in the family Hon. That, taken with my own knowledge, has been very helpful.

it usually has to do with

It usually has to do with hormone levels. If you have been on hormones for a couple of years, you can expect to bring mostly firmly in the female category.
Question then of course is: how long is a couple of years? 2? 5?

Hormones

The jury is out whether it has an influence as the Chinese situation may be biased by the fact men smoke a lot more in China.

Very true......

I can get. I don’t think it will help - I’m not really on speaking terms with God, and I haven’t exactly always been the best Christian; I will pay penance for the things I have done for the rest of my life, and probably beyond.

So yeah, I’m not beyond taking all the help I can get!

Christians do insist that their god...

...is the only one available. Muslims, Bhuddists, Lamaists, Agnostics and Atheists... Look at them incredulously.
Famous quote that believing in God will not make afterlife any worse only counts on that their god is the only one and the only true one... If you believe in Jesus ... Odin will be, most probably, greatly disappointed in you. And you will not reach Bhuddists enlightenment...
So don't beat yourself too much over you being not a good *insert religion here*. Maybe you are saving your soul by not going to the mass on Sundays...

The 100.3 fever is troubling

Patricia Marie Allen's picture

The symptoms you describe, as you say, could be either COVID19 or the flu. Keep an eye on his chest congestion. Lack of chest congestion would indicate the flu. Aches and pains are common in flu, no so much with COVID19.

But in the end, the treatment for both is pretty much the same, unless the chest congestion become sever.

The good news is that if your son is otherwise healthy, there's no reason he shouldn't survive with only a bad memory of the time he suffered. Of course those of you caring for him need to be super conscious of the contagion factor for both ailments. Lots of hand washing etc, etc.

Between having two doctors in the family, plus my own knowledge and field experience, and then of course the Public Health Department bugging us every day, we are getting lots of advice, lol.

It could be anything

As you said it could be anything, but I understand the worry. Take care hon.

With all the hype...

...every cough and sniffle is troubling. Even though I know that most of my coughs are a side effect of blood pressure medicine and most sniffles are from some cat and dog owners around me (while I am allergic to the dogs and to the many of the cats....).

My thoughts are with you and your family at this time. I'm glad that you're feeling better and I hope that your son makes a speedy recovery. There is a nasty flu going around as well, I caught it myself last week. You feel like hell for three days or so and then the symptoms start to abate and you feel better each day after until it's gone. No matter what it is I hope that your son feels better soon and I'm glad to hear that you already are.

*big hugs*
