She was the first to ever publish The Reluctant Girlfriend. So you have her to blame...

Interesting link
but the guide seems to love the 'three act play' model.
That in itself is not bad but... that could end up being a straightjacket if you follow it too religiously.
Go with the flow I say.

Should be used as a tool
As with any writers assist, it should be used as a tool to enhance what you want and not as a map from point A to point B.

More than half..
More than half of novels published by the large mainstream publishers follow one version or another of the "three act" model. That's partly because it's much easier to say that a story has a beginning, a middle and an end if they are clearly marked off. In genre fiction, it's way the heck more than half.
Is that good? Maybe, maybe not. But it is what it is.

= Give everyone the benefit of the doubt because certainty is a fragile thing that can be shattered by one overlooked fact.
I was always a fan of Jeffery Deaver.
Whenever you think his story is going to finish he's got another twist up his sleve. And he is selling millions of books. Maybe bcause he simply doesn't follow general concepts?
In any case, I think his stories are very entertaining and gripping.
