I'm having trouble finding out how to delete my stories from the site here. I've already figured out how to delete blog posts easily enough but deleting the story post eludes me. I'm trying to delete the double short-story collection entries so I can repost the stories individually but I can't find the option to. Would anyone be able to help me? Thanks in advance.

my quick answer

My quick answer is that no, there is no function in BCTS that allows users to erase/delete a story of theirs, afaik. (I could be wrong, though.)

As for other types of posts, like blogs, comments, etc - they have been given delete functions.

I think trying to crowdsource an answer isn't the way - why not ask Erin or Piper directly via a private message? It's always best, I think, to get the information straight from the people who would know.

But there are some workarounds that I'm sure you can do. For example, why not edit the existing posts? You know that you can change anything about a posted story, including the title, right? So why not just edit the existing story to be an individual story, and as for the other stories in that post, you can make up new entries for them. It's a bit tedious, but that's how I've done it on my stuff before. As for outright deleting them with no intention of replacing - I think that can't be done. (Again, I could be wrong, so please correct me if I am.)

But if you'd rather not go through with all that bother, maybe you can ask Erin or Piper to intervene, and they can delete your stories system-wise, although there may be some repercussions to that so they might not want to do so - I asked Erin a long time ago if stories could be deleted, and she said they can't be. That may have changed in the intervening years - BCTS has gone through a few changes already since then. Anyway, I'm sure they will be able to help or advise you.

Like I said, for me, I went through the complicated roundabout way.

Never delete!

Ask the site admins and they can unpublish a story for you, but please, NEVER delete a story you've shared! That not only gets rid of the story itself, but every comment that has been shared with you about it as well.

Worry not...

I wouldn't want to remove the stories I've written permanently (unless they broke site rules) they'd only be reposted by themselves rather than the collection post I currently have them in. I would even make sure to add the original comments for the story at the end. The only thing that would be lost from deleting the original posts and reposting the stories individually would be the kudos count.

Tell me and I can unpub

It's the way we do it here.

Missed stories

Don't know how I missed these stories when they were posted, but I did. They are nice little nuggets, just right for a quick fix. Anymore where these came from? :-)

Don't unpublish, post them

Don't unpublish, post them individually while using the current pages as their own title/book pages. You have two stories in the first volume, you can copy/paste them into Volumes 2 and 3 as individual stories then post the ones in Volumes 2 and 3 as individuals. Just make note that the comments are from an earlier edition and you are all set to go.

It seems complicated, but it's actually not that complicated. Then again, unpublishing might be easier if you want a clean slate overall
