A New Beginning Interrupted

It Freaking happened again!
Upgraded my software and lost 6 chapters aprox 30 pages, of A New Beginning. Last time this happened was a few years ago while writing Healing a Princess. I lost 20 pages of some of my best writing ever. I can't recreate near perfection.
I have my autosave set for 10 minutes and I hit save before I close my laptop. I have NO idea where these last chapters could have gone, been searching everywhere.
I'm very disheartened. I can't remember all of the really cool details that I had written in to those chapters. I guess I'll have to just start and see where it takes me. hopefully there won't be any forgotten details, story arcs etc that I can't remember.
So, until further notice, or I can get my butt in gear and try to recreate those chapters, A New Beginning is Interrupted.

Thanks for the chapters so far. Also thanks for the heads up. I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks....."how do I for all the updated serials into my schedule... AND get some sleep." so for some of us it's extra free time. :-D

Do what you can. Rewrite. Time is kind of crucial, but sleep when you have to. It won't totally obliterate your memories
I speak from experience. I've had shit mysteriously disappear and it's pure horror and makes me wanna bang my head on the wall and scream "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" (Go ahead, it sometimes helps...); but these six chapters are still in your head. They'll find their way back onto the page.
Don't worry if it's not quite as good, it'll be good and we your devoted readers won't know the difference.

So sorry to hear you had that happen =[ Sadly I think it's too common of a problem sigh... hugs thank you for spending the time to write, and sharing it for us to read!
I wish there was something I could say to help ease the pain of losing your work. =[
Unlikely to be deleted
It can be very easy to accidentally drag and drop a folder to an unknown location, and general looking is unlikely to locate the new location.
I've done this many times, and always found the files eventually, by the following method.
You can use the file manager's (Windows Explorer) search facility to look for files/folders using part of the file name.
You need to search by entire Drives individually eg C: D: E: (Not My Computer)
A Laptop usually has only one drive using the letter C:, though some do have more.
If you know one word that's in the file name search for that word e.g. Beginning or Plague.
If you find the files you can right click and open location to see where they are located, or simply copy them to a known location.
Only if you have been saving them to the program folder, will there be a likely possibility of permanent loss.
Programs often delete the previous installs folder then create a new one.
If that's where they were saved, make sure you choose a safer location in future.
As this is the second time, I recommend you also make a manual copy of the files before you update the program next time.

what software and operating system you use, love?
I am sorry this happened, but perhaps everything can be recoverd. In any case I recommend to backup your system and your data before an update, I cannot imagine you wrote all of what you lost just before you hit save with the updated version.
Computers can be a boon or a bane, depending how well you know the system you are working with. Windows has, since the beginning, a tendency to store data on the hard drive like a muck spreader works. It just blows the data onto the hard drive without order, rhyme or reason, unless you have specified exactly where you want them.
I have a split hard drive, one bit where windows does its shit the way it likes (called the C drive, it holds the operating system, i.e.Windows), and one partition (D drive) that contains my data, for which I have "told" Windows exactly what I want where. That, though is advanced usership and requires some intimate knowledge, I am afraid. Regular (daily) backups, though are still a must. I recommend to use a separate USB stick for each story. It takes discipline, but helps prevent serious disappointments.
