i just moved to jefferson county missouri and due to flooding am now cut from access from most of the st. louis area, so i was not able to make my doctors appt. or visit family. this is the second flood like this in 18 months where this type of floods never happened here before and many people are asking why. one theory that is going round is that the army corp of engineers built new levies upstream to protect farmland that was always getting flooded and now that water has to have somewhere to go. so now it floods heavily populated areas.

flooding?
Could be. I'd wonder about the frequency of such storms. Is there an increase frequency of storms or greater intensity than there had been? If they are about the same, we'd have to ask if the levies have been changed in some ways. Of course, if the levies haven't been changed, then we'd have to find out why the flooding has increased. On the other hand, if the storms haven't increased, then why change the levies at all? Somehow, it doesn't make sense.

they
Did something similar upstream of York (the original one!) with similar effects - the once in ten years flood is now 2/3 times a year! They are now having to think about using water meadows to er hold water instead of houses! Idiots

It's a good job...

"Climate change" exists. The
"Climate change" exists. The main argument going on is whether it's primarily a natural phenomenon, or whether it was created solely by human beings. Mind you, if you live along the Gulf Coast, it's ALWAYS been climate change. "Wow. Dry and sunny." Ten minutes later... "Get the boat, Becky!"
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
The Climate has been changing
The Climate has been changing since the atmosphere first formed.
As far as I remember...
...anthropogenic climate change due to CO2 emissions was declared as a Chinese operation against US economy...
I just have to add that ability of 0.3 km3 of sentient biomass to otweight hudreds of km3 of other biomass in its global effects on climate... Is greatly exagerrated.
20+ years ago there was huge media attention to "acid rains" in Europe. Those rains were used to destroy chemical industry in Europe and move all of the production to China and India. After the move... Frequency of acid rains was reduced by about 2%... But media is now ignoring those acid rains as they are caused by the plancton in the North Sea.
There are loads of indications that what is actually happening is a global cooling. And we are powerless to do anything with it. If wearher forecast is anywhere close to what we will have over the next weekend, it will be somwhere close to coldest beginning of may in the last 100 years.
I lived in the area in 93
I lived up North a couple hours in the Hannibal, Mo and Quincy, IL area in 1993, that was the last major flooding that I remember in that area. I know they redid a bunch of the locks and dams, along with the levies after that.
ocean currents
One of the biggest changes in climate is due to the ocean currents that change every decade or so. "global warming" as many have attributed the ocean current change to.
Really if you look at history of about a hundred years ago it has not changed as much as people think it has.
However since this weather happened about a hundred years ago the former dykes/levis/dams/ whatever used to control flooding are no longer around. Also the rivers and lakes have changed by humans building dams of one sort or another. Even something as simple as a beaver dam on a "normally" low river can cause problems during a large thunderstorm.
Ive seen one river that had three beaver dams and due to those three half of a small town got flooded. They blew them up(literally used explosives) and no more flooding.
