The link below to the Guardian includes a film clip which looks like a thriller, alas it's Spanish with subtitles but it certainly looks more interesting than the average transgender film.

Good timing for this film

Subtitles are your friend
Somehow, some way, I WILL see this film. The trans character and her struggles is a plus (primatologists say that while chimpanzees like action movies better than talk-y movies, they would rather watch a boring film with chimps in it than an exciting film without chimpanzees. I've always related this to human viewing habits), but I'd want to see it if it was about a non-trans woman. I've seen a lot of great films from Spain and Mexico and South America, and it's always interesting to see how other nations' filmmakers are up to.
My parents weren't the least bit artsy or intellectual but my sister and I were kind of raised on Italian and French new wave cinema (I think they liked that adult themes were treated frankly, the filmmakers treating their audience like they were grown-ups who could handle stuff, as opposed to the hamfisted didacticism of American films back in those days), and Ali and I got the bug for subtitled films + even today are always turning each other onto some Japanese, Scandanavian or German film or tv series we've discovered. Our family's always been that way. Despite being damnnear incomprehensible to each other in so many ways, the one thing we can share + enjoy together + discuss safely has always been film.
It cracks me up when people gripe about how Hollywood can't produce anything but remakes or mindless drivel (THE FAST & THE FURIOUS 27), that movies have all turned to crap; but then they won't look any farther afield than the top ten newest films at their local cinema or on STARZ for something to watch. It seems like they would rather complain and feel vindicated in some obscure way than enjoy something a little outside of the redbox. I can always find something to watch. There's a whole world out there, and everybody's making movies!
