Like to keep abreast of things and I may have mentioned doing a little bike ride today.
Well I finished, which is more than over 1000 managed, even if my 13 hours is 6 full hours slower than the winner!
In case you missed it before, the ride takes in 4 Tyrolean passes in 238km for a total gain of 5500m. It may well be the hardest day i've ever had on a bike, it certainly gives new respect to the pro riders in those mountain stages! For the record, whilst I stopped often I never resorted to walking and my days ride topped 245km as I rode to the start this morning and back up the 100m climb to my apartment tonight.
At the end of my trip i'm doing another event, compared to this it should be a cinch, 'only' 187km and 2500m climbing!
For someone not really built for going uphill I seem to do a lot of it - on Friday I rode to the 2805m summit of Europe's highest public paved road!
Well that's it for now

Fresh Milk?
If the Alpine scenery is anything like I remember it then this should be an experience you'll treasure all your life.
Just don't fall for any of the 'fresh milk' signs. Two friends of mine did. It was fresh all right - fresh out of the cow's udders.
And for your next project?

What's wrong with that?

That's nothing!
I walk three miles every day at the indoor mall! It's flat. It's air conditioned. It's flat. No mosquitos. No bugs. No autos, bicycles. Indoor plumbing. Did I mention that it's flat and air conditioned? And coffee's available at three different locations in case you need it while walking on the flat, indoor, air-conditioned mall. Yup, it's tough, but someone has to do it. So, I volunteered.
BTW, the only way I'd do 238 klics with a 5500 meter climb would be in a car, sitting down, air conditioned, radio, sitting, air conditioned. Gas pedal on the right; brake on the left. Steer left; steer right. Two hours, no sweat.

you couldn't
Do this route in two hours by any transport! Maybe four if you were lucky, it's too twisty and steep to go fast and bikes can actually descend quicker than cars when it's like that - I hit 96kph going down one bit, close to brown knickers at that point!
I had air conditioning, problem was it didn't work above 20c!

Well done
It rained here pretty well all day so I stayed home except to go and get the newspapers. When I was awake I did manage the cryptic crosswords in the Observer, The Sunday Telegraph and the Sunday Times oh and I had a letter published in the middle one, all that was after sitting up to 1.30 am doing the minutes for the mammal group as the secretary was ill. I do lead such an exciting life.

Good for you

And here I thought that the 31 miles I rode today was nice.
nice
Comes in different packages! My ride up to Vent, a mere 300m over 12km was nice, the ride up the Glacier road on Friday, 1400+m to just over 2800m was borderline nice.
Sundays ride although impressive was an accomplishment rather than nice. The only really nice bit was finishing although I will admit some of the downhills were exhilarating - I touched 96kph somewhere before I bottled it, you don't get second chances at those speeds!
A nice ride for me could be several hours around the hills near home or giving it some over five or six somewhere flatter. I'm not picky where I do 'nice' rides!

..that made me feel exhausted. Congrats on completing the course, no matter how long it took. I gave that kind of stuff(riding) up a while ago and now rely on "shank's pony"(feet) or the bus. I no longer own a car.

of course before I go home
I've got maybe another 10000m of passes to conquer - but at least they are spread out, no more than a couple a day and sometimes none!

Wow, I'm impressed! That's huge mileage (killomeratage?) and ascent. Can't see myself doing that!
