Joan, who are you?
Well I have gone by "Joan de Arc" for acting like a martyr. I have gone by "Joan of Harp" as an amateur musician. I have given my middle name of Joan for a food pickup because no one can spell my first name right. Then there are some of my friends that just call me Joan.
I grew up feeling sorry for myself. I knew that I was not like everyone else. I learned very early that I couldn't be who I wanted to be. I discovered that I couldn't pray my wish to come true. Above all else the betrayal by a priest to orchestrate the exposure and attempted reprogramming of my sinful thoughts divulged in the confessional taught me to abandon truth at all cost. The sacrifice made to live the lies and renounce my essence of "Joan" truly did feel like being staked in a fire.
I am all better now.
In early grade school the nuns had us children participate in a music aptitude test. Well the many sessions of torturing those poor recorders proved that I would never play one professionally in the philharmonic. The instrument that I have always loved, The Harp, was never to be considered since I couldn't even play the simple recorder. Forty two years later I discover "The Harp Twins" on YouTube playing "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult.

My passion for the harp reignited, my spouse graciously supported my desire, the harp was bought and my new harp teacher has been challenging me for the last two years.

Having had the privilege
of being seated near the harpist playing in a BSO concert, I realised how important the instrument is in modern orchestral music. You may never play at the same level as that lady, but I'm glad you've realised some of your dream and wish you well with your lessons. I enjoyed the picture too.
As a Welshwoman, the harp is our national instrument and this is one our best exponents playing a traditional air.
