Did anyone else watch the Men's road race this morning? OMG what a dangerous course, hair-pin turns cobble stones, and the downhills were scary.
I thought the Iranian was dead. What a finish !

He'd worked so hard then came off on the last circuit. He finished the race but lost his place.

Olympic road race has and probably always will be a lottery - it's nice to win but not at the possible expense of your 9 to 5. The variation in experience and quality of the riders is great from an inclusion stand point but a nightmare for the athletes. It would be better to dump it and replace with a team time trial!

I know what you mean. I showed horses on a regional and national level, often in small rings, you never knew how experienced the driver was coming up behind you. I once had a horse's nose bump my shoulder !
Road bike races
like Maddy Bell said will always be a lottery of sorts. The Olympic officials that oversee the course will nix anything they believe will be too dangerous. They try to mitigate where they can, like the blocks of foam in the storm drains on the downhill. I will have to say that some of that downhill course was way too narrow to accommodate the mass of bikers not in the three breakaway groups. What really worried me were all the cars and motorbikes on the road over the last 10 km.

... on the PC in my workshop but it was a bit distracting and I had to remake a few parts I'd bodged up because of a lack of concentration :)
One day races are always a slice of luck that's why stage races usually result in the best rider winning. Sailing is the same. A championship is spread over several days because a lucky windshift can have a dramatic effect on the result of a specific race.
Like Chris Boardman, who was commenting on BBC, I was nervous of the narrow descent and, sadly, for several riders the fear was justified - notably, Richie Porte, Nibali and, of course, Geraint Thomas all had their chances spoiled by crashes on the last lap of the circuit.
Still, congratulations to Greg and especial commiseration to Majka, who simply lost his legs on the final flat run in when it looked like he may finish alone and ahead.

The dutch girl was injured on? I don't follow sports but my news client is set to flag stories with Netherlands in them. I really felt bad for her, she lost and was seriously injured too. The extent of her injuries seemed to vary from story to story but being put in ICU is never a good thing. I saw one article about the race and the sports commentators were ripping the Olympic officials for the dangerousness of the course. I hope she fully recovers but it looks like her Olympic dream is over.
I went outside once. The graphics weren' that great.
