I’ve had to restart my computer, twice, when Calibre screwed up my computer and wouldn’t let me forced quit.
I need to be able to convert drm-free azw files to epub, to be able to read them on my e-reader.
I would also like to be able to convert html files to epub, for the same reason. I can easily convert them to txt, if that helps.
I would also like to be able to strip bad formatting, correct metadata, etc.

A Calibre alternative
The other free ePub editor/manager for OS X is Sigil (also here).
Thanks, but it can't convert

My current e-reader can't read azw. I've tried other e-readers and tablets, but as far as I know, all the ones which can run the Kindle app use touchscreens. I can't use touchscreens, due to proprioceptive issues, and can't handle the animation built into some of these devices, due to sensory issues and migraines. I'm trying to avoid too much reading on the computer, due to rsi.
P.S. Mobi-to-Epub or Mobi-to-Html should do the trick, but my e-reader can't read plain html either.
found this looking around

Okay, this is driving me
Okay, this is driving me crazier!
My e-reader can't always handle the resulting epus [from Mobi to Epub] and pdfs [from exporting text files to pdf]. It is a pain checking which ones have converted correctly cross-referencing titles to the Amazon files, etc. It definitely can't handle ordinary html and txt files. It is tempting to get a Kindle Keyboard or Dx and convert the other way... but it won't be as powerful.
