I'm not a big fan of the sun most of the time, but today?

Today is beautiful.

It's in the high 60's, and the birds are out singing, the insects and frogs and other wildlife are joining in, the air is fresh after a few days of rain, and it's just absolutely gorgeous, the kind of day you want to throw the windows open and just let the fresh air wash away all the staleness from a stuffy, enclosed winter.

So, that's just what I've done.

It smells of earth, and leaves, and rain, with just enough of a breeze to keep things swirling and clean. It's too muddy out to really DO much, but that hasn't stopped my nieces and nephew from trying to go out and play, and their laughter just adds a sweet counterpoint to everything else, only occasionally sullied by the passing of a vehicle.

I feel depressed a lot, or just unmotivated. But days like today make everything seem worthwhile, if just to lay back with your eyes closed on the porch, and absorb the sunlight while basking in the beauty and bounty of nature.

We thought the same just a few miles south. Spring in Arkansas can be a beautiful time; however, we still have five days before the first day of spring. We could still get another bout of snow or ice. I hope not. We may have to turn on the air conditioning. Perish the thought.

Certain Signs

Damp and grey here in Wearside, I'm afraid. But the daffodils are starting to poke through, and if you look hard enough you can see buds forming on the trees.

Listen to this if you want to be in a really summery frame of mind.

They're called Le Futur Pompiste, and they're from Finland. Very derivative, especially of Stereolab, but my God does this music put a spring in your step!

Ban nothing. Question everything.

Pretty much

...how it was in Illinois; I was out most of the day as my health allowed, and I don't regret it in the least. Pretty beautiful so far today, too... but cold. Very cold.
