I don't know how many of you read my report on the Memorial Service (click here to read) we held for the Transgender Day of Remembrance on Tuesday, but we had some additional benefits today.

One of the people who was there stood up in the full Sunday Meeting and gave a moving summary of the service and of one of the testimonies that I barely touched on in my report. She delivered a touching plea to spread tolerance and acceptance, as well as to remind people to give compassion and support for the victims of these hate crimes.

It's only a small step, true, and it took place in a faith community already famous for opposing violence and promoting the equality of all people, but like they say about Jewish Penicillin (a.k.a. chicken soup), "It couldn't hurt!"

Momentum has to start somewhere, or in lots of somewheres. There has already been some progress in the secular world, but the faith community has been far behind, or worse, part of the problem. To have momentum starting in the largest single congregation of Quakers in New York State, can only be a good thing.
