It's been hard to catch it up!
All good!
You know what's better than one post celebrating Independence Day? Two posts! :)
Though I have become somewhat conflicted by the holiday. On one hand, hooray for celebration of the ideals which are (too often) not lived up to in the hopes to inspire further generations to get there. On the other side though - kitties, pups, and unfortunately (too many) of our veterans have to suffer through the explosive ear-thumping mayhem come evening-time.
The pyromaniacs near me already started a week ago.
4th of (screaming PTSD)
I know what you mean Erisian. Except here they are firing live ammuntion not fireworks.
First time after I moved here (Oregon) I was asleep in the midst of a dream or whatever when the shooting began. By the time I woke up, I was holding a 9mm (loaded - don't remember pulling the magazine out of the safe) and was trying to insert shells backwards into my rifle. Um....... fortunately the following years were a bit kinder and the shooting didn't grab me so hard. There's something about automatic fire that gets to me. (yes, I mean FULL- automatic and NOT a string of firecrackers.)
By-the-by... whoever it is still does it every 4th. The individual rips off a magazine pauses about a minute, rips off another... another pause then rips off a third. I estimate it is 16 to 20 rounds each time. With the price of ammo the way it is, that's quite a bit of change to just blast into the air. Anyone for lead hail?

It's amazing
It's amazing that more people don't die from lead rain. Maybe they do and I just don't know about it. "Ol' Jim, now, he just up and died one night. Was standin' there, celebrating, then just up and died."
Tom Lehr's old ballad has some application. "'Once ze rockets go up, who knows where zay come down? Zhat's not my department,' says Werner von Braun."

We could hope
We could hope he's blasting them into a hill side or some other suitable back stop. I don't know where you in Oregon, but I live in the foot hills of the Coast range about an hour's drive west of Portland and a couple of times in the last six years, we've heard big game rounds being discharged. Two or there only. We're in a small town and the city limit's aren't far off.
I'm sure that it's illegal to posses a fully automatic rifle without being federally licensed and the weapon must be registered. The weapon must have been manufactured before 1986.
