I know that self-recommendation is no recommendation, or at least so my mother used to say, but I was recently asked a question about Bike which involved reading fifty or so episodes to answer. Now I know Bike has it's fans and many more who would probably enjoy it but are frightened of its length.

I haven't read it through for a couple of years and it can be very time-consuming and addictive, but don't think about that. I am pleasantly surprised at how well it's written and that the plot generally hangs together to keep the reader interested. An interest in the environment probably helps, but lack of it will mean you and yours die sooner as global climate change worsens and storms and extreme weather kills many all over the world.

But the plot isn't about the environment its about a transwoman who tries to deal with falling in love with a nice man but a bit of dipstick at times (when aren't they) and how she copes with her career, her family and the universe. Give it a try, some of it funny, some tragic and some action scenes or various types, from dealing with the Russian Mafia to coping with an aggressive driver while she is cycling who gets run over by his own car when his aggressive dog releases the handbreak. You don't have to read it all because there are hundreds of story arcs within it. Please give it a try, you'll only regret not doing so earlier, promise. If you don't like it, tell me why, but I think if you give it a chance, you will and want to read more.

It’s well worth the read

When I first found this tale, I binge read it for weeks. It is well worth the time, and I think you’ll fall in love with the characters, and the writer.
As the ad slogan says ‘just do it’. You’ll thank me later.

Anodyne

I found Bike in the aftermath of an estrangement. I don’t know that escape with it was a lifesaving painkiller, but it helped, and meanwhile I didn’t ruin my life or liver.

With You At The Beginning...

Looking back, it seems that I read your first episode whether in 2007 or 2015. Regardless of the date, I remember your starting it. The fact that the start dates do not match is perhaps due to a disturbance in the ether.

Good on ya.

I'm in the process of

I'm in the process of rereading it for the second time, or maybe second time. I still find things that I don't remember from the first or second read. Yes, it's a long read, but worth it.
