First let me restate that this is in no way an endorsement of any of the stories submitted for the 2024 New Year’s Contest. That ain’t my job.
What I do is look at the comments on each story and pick the ones that appeal to me, so some stories that may be great don’t get a guernsey (do the USA and Canada have guernseys for sporting achievement?) because all the comments just say “great story”. I love to see encouragement but I look for something extra.
I posted an earlier list of my top “leaderboard” comments and this one in no way replaces that. I am doing this chronologically to allow stories submitted a little later in the contest to garner comments, so there will be more of these posts until the finish of the contest.
I’m happy to say you’re not making it easy for me. Comment your damndest!

But, more important, the opportunity to be recognized by the God-Empress of Comments!
As a writer, I love to get comments on my stories. The feedback is wonderful, but the chance to interact with friends about the ideas, the characters and the settings that have been rattling around in my brain is priceless. I also always enjoy the comments on stories I’m reading. When everyone pitches in, it feels like a party — with some of my favorite people. :)

As Leslie Gore might have sung to us all?
It's her story she replies 'cause she wants to
she replies 'cause she wants to
replies 'cause she wants to
replies 'cause she wants to
You could reply, too, if they commented to yoo-ooh!
