Voting for the Short Story Month February 2012 Contest is over. I debated leaving the voting open another day to see if we could get 150 voters but we need 20 more and we did not get 20 voters on the last day of voting and I don't think we would get 20 more with one more day. So there are only five prizes instead of six.
Here are the results of the voting.
130 voters cast their ballots and the top five stories all won $29 for their writers:
Girl Detective Redux - A Beginning by Roberta J Cabot
9% (48 votes)
What The Hell! by Susan Brown
6% (31 votes)
Chemical Ali by Melanie Brown
6% (29 votes)
Lady of the Lake by Maggie Finson
5% (28 votes)
Luck be a Lady by Maeryn
5% (28 votes)
Winners need to contact me as to how they want their winnings handled.
The following three stories were very close to winning prizes and were in the top five during some part of the voting. They are listed here as Honorable Mentions.
Who Wears Short Shorts? I Wear Short Shorts! by Rami
5% (27 votes)
the lighthouse... by Drea Dimaggio
5% (25 votes)
Kiss Your Elbow and Become a Girl by Jennifer Sue
5% (24 votes)
Congratulations to all the winners and to the Honorable Mentions, too. And thanks to everyone who entered and to everyone who voted.
The next contest is being planned and will be announced soon. :)
Hugs,
Erin

How does theis work
Dear Erin,
Maybe you could explain since I cast 1 vote and afterwards only saw a message that we can change a vote.
If 130 votes were cast and the winners got 164 votes between them that represent 31 % of the votes that means about 420 votes were cast. That means some voters cast more votes.
The winner was right by my personal opinion but really I'm just interested to know for next time.
Hugs

I think it's like this:
All voters were invited to vote more than once. Comparing the number of votes cast for each of the stories to the percentages represented, and taking into account any rounding involved, you can work out there were a total of between 510 and 527 votes cast in total. This means that each voter chose an average of four stories.
Good competition everyone, thoroughly enjoyed reading everyone's entries and congrats to the other winners.
Thanks
Wow! 27 votes is fantastic, as is the Honorable Mention. Thank you to all of those who voted for my story, those who read it, those who gave me kudos, left comments, and sent PMs.

just out of curiosity, how did my piece do?
Not well enough, but still, I wouldnt mind knowing if anybody but me voted for it.
Yeah,
Same here. Took me a while, but I finally found this page.
More results
Several people have asked for more results from the last contest to be shown. It's not the policy here to show all the results in a contest but here are another eight entries and the votes they received:
This is about half the total entries, anybody whose story did not finish in the top half can ask me privately what their result was.

= Give everyone the benefit of the doubt because certainty is a fragile thing that can be shattered by one overlooked fact.
