A reasonable amount of sense.

And now you have me wondering. Do you think that Robert A. Heinlein's The Number of the Beast managed to include those many hundreds (or millions?) of crossovers while still making sense? Snerk.

Many of my friends think it is one of his worst books while others, me included, think it is one of his best.

The Number of the Beast

Well, considering that he explicitly included fictional universes and the number of reachable universes was given as 666 (which according to bc is a number with 36307 digits) there must be quite a lot of them that do not make any sense (or at least not for us, to be fair).

As to the book itself, I love it, but would not consider it one of his best (I would rate "Starship Troopers", "Time Enough for Love" or "Friday" much higher that TNOTB).

You had me at Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey

You had me at "wibbly wobbly timey wimey" in the Author's Note.
I'll definitely check it out.

And alas, THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST is about the only Heinlein I've never read.
It was only a year ago that I realized this oversite and went looking for it. It's out of print,
and used dog-eared paperback copy is beaucoup expensive at Amazon;
Plus the bad reviews kind of scare me away from it, so I'll wait...

There's another novel, or a series of two books; about a magic umbrella---I read it in the 1970s or 80s and don't recall the title or author----about a parasol that can drop a person into any published fictional world they desire. Anyone remember it?

And then there's always GUMBY, who could sort of phase into any book right through to the cover...

"What the hell kind of book is this Gumby?"

"Watch your language Pokey, this is a kid's show! I don't know what kind of book it is I found it hidden away in my parent's room. It's called The 1000 Nights of Sodom by the Marquis de- OH NOOOOOOOO MR. BILL!!!"

I remember the book fondly not sure if it would be as good if i read it again, but the worlds and scope that the book covered widened my imagination and that is the power of that book. It may not be a classic's classic but well worth the read.

Parasol makes me think of Mary Poppins so no clue which book you read.

Emotion, yet peace.
Ignorance, yet knowledge.
Passion, yet serenity.
Chaos, yet harmony.
Contemplation, yet duty
Death, yet the Force.
Light with dark, I remain Balanced.

Well

I'm glad to see so many people are looking at this. Part 2, The Rise of Iconia, is perhaps a bit more rushed, so doesn't read quite as well, IMHO.
