The Firsts and the Fear

So, I got my first, real, professional pedicure a few nights ago. I honestly do not know why I never had this done before because my feet felt *amazing* when it was over. I even got them polished with a nice sea foam green color. My wife was with me when I had this done (she actually suggested that we go together) and thought the color looked nice.

Finally

So, I took a big step, personal-wise, a few days ago and met with a therapist to discuss and hopefully unravel the convoluted mess that is me.

I had been to see a therapist a couple of times many, many moons ago, when I first started trying to figure out where I truly belonged on the gender spectrum (if anywhere). Unfortunately, that particular provider was the sort who was all about jumping into the deep end of the pool.

Actually Squealed Out Loud

So, I finally got around to renting The New Mutants last night. I would have liked to have seen it in the theater, but Covid put the brakes on that idea. However, I have been really looking forward to its release. (Anyone who gets my pen name would understand why.)

I didn't expect to actually squeal out loud (embarrassingly) when Illyana, played perfectly by Anya Taylor-Joy, responded to someone warning her that her opponent was magic by replying "So am I."

Yes, I'm a big, goofy dork. But I just had to share.

XOXO

Still here ... sort of

I just wanted to let people know that I haven't abandoned the site, nor the next chapter of The Other Side of Me. I went on vacation a couple of weeks ago and returned home with a bit of depression and a huge pile of Impostor Syndrome. I promise that the next chapter will be out soon, it's already half written. I just needed the extra time to find my voice and get the words flowing again.

Sorry for making anyone waiting on it.

Superpowers

Anyone else constantly coming across those poll questions on social media that ask "What would you pick if you could have one superpower?" and finding themselves answering "Shapeshifting"?

And sometimes people will ask why not flight, or super strength, or lightning speed, or telepathy? Like those are the powers you SHOULD want to have.

But to have the ability to change yourself? Everything about yourself physically? That's a dream come true.

Then again, maybe I've just been re-reading too many comics lately.

Too long ... too short ... just right?

So I was wondering if perhaps I make my tales too long. I've always heard the axiom that a story should be only as long as it needs to be, but I find myself incapable of weaving chapters of less than 4,000 words. Sometimes I'll be done with a chapter of my story and realize that I've managed to throw almost 9,000 words at it. Then I go through and cut what I think is unnecessary. However, it still ends up being a lengthy piece.

I want to keep people entertained with vivid imagery and description, but I don't the audience to get bored with all the prose.
