It is with heavy heart and deep regret that I must inform the community that Stan Morton, otherwise known as Stanman died a week ago. I heard from a friend of the family so I didn't get any details
I know that I will miss him. He tried hard to always be a positive voice and commented often.
Big Closet will be quite different with him gone

I am saddened by Stan's passing. Stan was a important member of BTCS. I remember talking with Stan after Mellissa's passing at great length over her passing and the assistance he had offered to assist in editing her remaining stories for her. Stan I will miss you, and MAY YOUR LIGHT FOREVER SHINE. My condolences and prayers to all the family and friends that knew him. His positive and uplifting comments always made me wmile when I dropped on the site to see how all is doing. GOD BLESS YOU MY FRIEND, You are with the Angels now and the light will continue to shine on all of us.

Stanman will be missed by one and all! He was the eternal optimist and always looked on the bright side of life. I always enjoyed his comments and his stories.

I did not know Stan personally and only exchange a couple of messages wiith him. What I got from him immediately was a very positive person who had a big generous heart. For his family and friends I offer my prayers.

He was a constant commenter, always positive and encouraging. He struggled as a writer but improved as much or more than anyone here.
He welcomed new people, helping them to learn how to post and he invited other writers to join our community. His chief joy seemed to be exploring the imagination displayed in his favorite stories.
He was funny, sometimes when he didn't intend to be so.
In the face of dislike and frequent outright verbal assault, he displayed patience, graciousness and courage.

Some are with us for a reason, season or a lifetime
As with others who come to this site there were times that Stan did touch a few nerves, but he was human and not perfect. At first I found him to be inquisitive and childlike, but even that attribute can often get under ones skin. I did help him when it came to military genre especially Naval language and history. I am going to miss him, he tended to grow on you, as much as he would often rile one up he would seem to overcome it by his non critical comments.
As I look back there was a lot of good in him, his intention were meant to be good and often were mistaken as something else. I believe he found a home here where he wasn't a misfit. There was one who saw him for himself and stood firm on letting him stay here while others complained. I now see that wisdom in letting him stay. After all are we not considered misfits among society and here we are just every day normal human beings with different issues.
As Katie says Big Closet will be different with him no longer around he will be sorely missed. I feel bad, that I had blocked him and put him on my ignore list. I had removed him just a short while ago giving him the benefit of the doubt. Now I feel saddened that I had him on my ignore list.

It is never pleasant to lose someone
Stanman WAS a fixture here at BC.
To be honest, sometimes he drove me crazy and some others here that I correspond with... and yes I realize that is a short trip for me. But as infuriating as I found him at times, this IS BC and Erin encourages the widest practical range of individuals here. And I MUST praise her for that gift to us.
It did not know the man personally so I do not know with any certainty his good point nor his faults.
But whoever he was in life, no matter his sins nor his virtues, he is gone and we are diminished.
I am suspicious his great weight was related to his death.
But whatever the cause he will be missed. For good or ill he was one of us and what more can I say? Even if his intent to comment on EVERYTHING posted here drove me crazy at times, I will miss him.
And , no, as wordy as I am no way can I comment on everything.
That's a full time job here these days.
BTW Erin, where do we stand relative to Fictionmania? I know we surpassed them in total stories online. But are we still kicking their electronic ass?

I was saving the latest books for him to get three together, he bought every single one, i'm at a loss for words.
Yes he could be infuriating, but he was loyal and supportive and his fan fiction is nothing if not inventive.

Whilst I'm not the most prolific writer here, I always looked forward to seeing a 'Comment by Stanman' appear.
I did notice that my latest story didn't have one of his generally short but sweet comments.

I had read the other thread last night, and Sephrena's last comment made me fear this. Unfortunately, it's confirmed today.
I'll miss a very positive influence on our community, and I hope Stan is well, whereever he may be.

I found him intensely annoying at times, but at others he could say the most profound things. Like us all he was a contradiction. I will admit I didn't much like his stories, but he never stopped trying to improve. One of his strengths were he always came up with the best titles. Like all of us wounded doves I believe he did the best he could and that is enough for anyone.

Party in Paradise. Stan commented on every story I say. His comments were often short, maybe a line or two, but always included a mention of something that happened in the story. He read through everyone's work and took the time to express his appreciation. He will be missed.
People say, "You don't know what you had until it's gone." Very true, but also equally true is, "You don't know what you've been missing until is arrives."

That Stan was usually the first comment on about 95% of my stories. I'm going to miss seeing his replies. He was one of the more positive comment givers, that I recall. Now it will just seen weird to not have a comment from him in the first few hours of posting.

But often read his comments, and even passed a few back and forth over the last few months. Like everyone else, I am sorry to see the passing of anyone from this family. I have found friends and family here and today I found that my family was smaller by one.
Stan, where ever you are, you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm really saddened at this
I'm really saddened at this news. Stan seemed like a very nice man. He got picked on for reasons I cannot understand. He always found a way to comment on a story, it'll be weird reading things here and not seeing his little smiling avatar. Though I didn't know him personally, like many, I felt his presence here. He'll be missed.

Stanman was always one of the first to comment on stories. He was positive about everything, and encouraged authors to continue to write. I'm sure we will all miss him.

I do hate to hear that.
I did not know him but I do believe he was a very caring individual. That is the sense I got from what he wrote here. I disagreed with some things he said but I wish no bad things or ill will on any person regardless of any disagreements we may have. I pray that he is in the comfort of the angels now.

As far as I know he never had any harsh response to even his most vile and angry tormentors. Go your way in peace, knowing that you changed lives here both while you lived and after your death. Amen.

We all knew that Stan had health problems but it still comes as a shock and surprise to learn of his death. Gonna miss him like crazy for he was like a datum line for every writer.

The news brought tears to my eyes; we are indeed diminished without him and his brief yet frequent comments. He was immortalised in SaraUK's 'You have it all wrong' universe and, if an epitaph is needed, this can be no greater.

However, I think in one way or another, we will all miss him. I believe that he commented on so many stories, as he wanted to show his support for the authors on this site, without which there would be no site or community that we can all call home.

Stan was always sweet to me.;) Just one of those great big teddy bear types. His constant string of comments will be greatly missed! They often led me to stories I would've otherwise overlooked. I'm sure He'll still be reading.;) I'll definitely miss His Olympian dedication to all who manage to post even the most trivial (such as my!) postings?;0

It is a long road ahead but I will finally become who I should be.
He was a great encourager...
In the last few months, he and I exchanged a few messages. I can't claim to have known him well, but he was always there and always had some encouragement to give when one felt down.
He will be missed; I pray that he is out of pain and in a place without discord and nastiness. May he have finally found that peace that we all strive to find.

Stan was many things to many people here, on BCTS and throughout the community. He was in many ways a simple person, that saw things in black and white. Mostly, knowing how important a comment can be to encourage a new author, he always commented on everything he read. The fact that he sometimes seemed to miss the deeper point, sometimes caused eyes to roll and some of the more unfortunate manifistations of frustration, that have erupted over the years. Yet behind that it was always in my mind, his way of trying to be encouraging, and I could not fault him for it.
May he now rest in peace. His constant presence will be missed.

Oh wow...
Stan taught me how to critique with an open heart instead of the cold detached feeling of an editor. I was so harsh on him and I never meant to be, I thought I was doing the right thing because that was what I learned in writing school. That you must be as ruthless as possible to help sometimes. And well I was wrong. I learned, and became a better person because of it, but still I regret what I did but it cant be taken back I'll just have to learn from it.
RIP Stanman, I hope you finally found your peace.

I've been a member of this site for over 8 years. And in all the time I've been visiting the sight there have been few member as dedicated to commenting and reading almost every story posted.
I'm sure that he will be missed.
I hope in what ever existence there is beyond this life, he finds happiness.

Damn, he was such a good person, diligently commenting on peoples stories. Without out fail he commented on mine, it made me happy to know someone took there time out to comment on each chapter I posted.
He will be missed, maybe I might go back to writing as a tribute to him.

That is such sad news. Stan made such an effort to leave a little comment on
every story we wrote, that it would only be fitting if we could find out if there
is some way that we could leave one for him. Perhaps a plaque we could put
together something: "It is his unfailing praise and his endless encouragements
that we will always remember most. From his Literary Friends."
It would be interesting to find out.

... on a story. He tried hard to at least voice some kind of encouragement though we all know he would go astray once in a while.

I must admit
There were days that I would just shake my head at comments that Stanman made. Not necessarily in a negative way, but in a way that just seemed naive I think. However that being said, he NEVER made a nasty comment that I ever saw. He was a friendly person who just tried to share that friendliness. Even when people treated him like dirt.
I will say that I will miss him. Simply because he was a fixture. No I didn't care for his stories all the time, but he put them out there and tried to give people some form of enjoyment. Stan, may you rest in peace. You espoused the spirit of loving your neighbor, even if he hates you.

Like all the other authors on this site, I'll miss Stan. Yes he may have been annoying at times, but he was never cruel. I remember the horrible reviews he got at FM and the readers waiting to kick him when he was down. Stan didn't deserve any of that. His stories may have been simple, but at least he tried, which is more than I can say for the people that beat him up the most. I'll miss you Stan, go in peace, Arecee

Sorry to hear about the loss of Stan. He will be missed by a lot of people in many countries. I like many others classed him as a friend although we lived on different continents. Remember though something of Stanley survives and will be there for all to read in the many stories he wrote and posted on the internet. It also survives in the many people he encouraged to write on this and other sites. Sharp
