Well, the surprise story is done and that makes me feel good.

It is something I started a number of years ago, back in late 2007 early 2008, at least the first ideas for it. I think the first words for it were in 2008 or 09, before I got sick. Since then I was hit with Tangled Up In Green, 300 Rains, The Journey is the Destination, other fanfic, a lot of Whateley stuff and Amulet of Adventure. It got dumped to the bottom of the pile and nearly forgotten.

However, this was a story I wanted to finish because it was a bit of an homage to Monterey, California where I used to live. I got to travel down streets where I used to walk, revisit old sites and take a trip down memory lane. It was really pleasant and made me feel very nostalgic. I even threw in the names of people I used to know, just to add some extra happiness for me. It gave me a massive warm fuzzy to write this. I now want to go visit my old home because I miss it so much.

I lived there twice, once as a kid and once as an adult and both times are seared in my brain. There is something about that area that holds a power for me that is very special. So writing this, set in that special place was very magical for me.

Perhaps the story was not ready back in 2008 or perhaps I was not ready to write it, either could be the case. Is it my best story? No, but it does have a lot of my heart in it. Once I edit it and maybe get someone to look it over I will post it.

The other thing is that, according to the rules for the April story contest, it fits the parameters. I think that is very cool. However, as it is the story is over 16k and I have yet to edit it, which always adds words. There was the bit about trying to be nice and not submitting anything over 10k, so I am not sure if I want to submit this for the contest or not. Such a conundrum. Oh well. Feedback on that would be nice.

Thanks for listening to me talk about this. When it comes out I hope people will like it. Like I said, it does mean a lot to me but your mileage may vary.

Ciao,
