My second career was as a public school teacher and administrator. I believe that any such day of heritage and/or remembrance should be held when school is in session, so that responsible, caring and knowledgeable adults can structure opportunities for learning and growth.

Regardless of what reasoning was used to schedule Native American Heritage Day as the day after Thanksgiving, it still represents a lost opportunity to teach our future generation.
