Low Fat Fudgy Brownies

Splurge on these brownies often and without guilt. They're tender, moist, chocolaty, and, thanks to the applesauce which replaces the usual butter, nicely low in fat.

Ingredients
1/2 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 egg whites
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup granulated sugar (Use Splenda instead of sugar for really low cal)
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
confectioners' sugar

Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 350'F. Grease a 13" x 9" baking pan.
2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
3. In a large bowl, with an electric mixer on low speed, beat the egg whites until foamy. Gently stir in the eggs, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well-combined. Blend in the applesauce and vanilla extract. Stir in the flour mixture. Stir in the walnuts.
4. Spread into the prepared pan. Bake for 30 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in the centre comes out clean. Do not over bake. Cool in the pan on a rack. Dust the confectioners' sugar over the brownies.
