San Francisco trip - any girls in the Bay area around?

Forums:

Hi folks,

I'm making a wee trip to San Francisco in the middle of May. And Jenny is planning to enjoy the time in SF. I was wondering if there are any other girls around the Bay Area that are interested in maybe meeting up? Or if any locals have any tips for a TG girl in San Fran on what is good to do, what to avoid?

If so, do please reply to this post or send me a private message.

San Francisco

I just checked a map. San Fransico is only four and one-half inches from St. Paul.

Passible?

I'll carefully mention that if your size is close to the female range, your voice does not sound like a bull frog, and your makeup is reasonable... This is still Covid time and many people are still wearing masks. Best wishes.

If you mostly pass or fully

If you mostly pass or fully pass, there are a lot of really cool tourist sites in the Bay area. There are also a hell of a lot of excellent restaurants. Take a ride on the trolleys, because they're really iconic. Driving down Lombard Street is amusing. It really depends on what sounds fun for you. The usual travel safety rules apply, but I am not aware of any area specific warnings. If you are concerned, see if there is a LGBT center that you can call or email. They will certainly know of any concerns.

We are the change that will save the world.

Passable

While I think it is possible to be not passable in San Francisco and have a very good touristy experience, I suspect you are less of a target if you are as the vultures who frequent touristy areas do go after who they perceive as the most vulnerable and like it or not a trans person may more likely not report a crime for obvious reasons.

It is a sad commentary on having to live a trans life.

Some issues to be aware of

Be careful when parking at tourist spots because there is a lot of smash and grab thefts occurring due to homelessness and drug problems. Make sure anything that is left in a car is locked up out of sight.

One of my friends has been robbed recently. They walked up to her when she was alone and told her to give them her valuables. So be aware of your surroundings and try not to be isolated in an unpopulated spot even in some of the nicer neighborhoods. That said, there are some gorgeous and beautiful hikes in the area if you're into that. Just don't go alone.

More of a big city issue to be aware of than a TG issue.

Some places I like that haven't been mentioned yet: Fishermans wharf, Ghirardelli Square, the street performers in that area, Twin Peaks, Golden gate Park, Lands' End Lookout, Chinatown, Muir Woods, Sausalito, Tiburon, The Presidio, Coit Tower, and the various beaches.

Some things that may be of interest: various military fortifications near the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, wine country in the Napa area, floating homes at the docks in Sausalito, San Francisco Victorian architecture, the Theater district in SF, and all types of nightlife in SF.

Some areas I avoid: Bayview–Hunters Point, Oakland, Richmond. The Tenderloin district and Berkeley have some offbeat attractions, but can have some risky areas.

Agreed with most of this

I visited the city with a born and bred San Franciscan friend of mine who now lives in Si Valley.

We took a pass on the whole Alcatraz thing as apparently it is a very dreary place.

We found that parking in a real parking garage is the way to go and gives the security you need for any vehicle in a big city.

Parking on the street is not a good idea if you plan to use it as a repeated repository for purchases as eventually the bad element will notice and just break in. I learned the hard way in NYC that was the case.

A trolley ride is a must, walking across the Golden Gate bridge was very scenic.

Yes, be very careful being alone anywhere but any city born person will tell you that. This goes triple for women!

Big Sur is a long drive but well worth it.

For Apple fanatics there is also the visitor center.

For fans of the odd collectible there is Bucks in silicon valley. Bucks is a diner cum tourist attraction in Si valley during tourist season as buses actually stop there so people can have lunch and look at one of the most eclectic and amazing collection of stuff including for the techies and Apple fans, an original circuit board for the original Apple computer, signed by Woz himself.

You'll probably never get closer to one as it is merely behind a plastic case where you can get really up close and see it.

The restaurants there as far as I know are pretty trans friendly, it is San Fran after all.

For fans of amazing pastry will go to Tartine's.

The Chinatown there is 'okay', kinda disappointing really as my friend who grew up in that Chinatown did not care to take me there as it is not that impressive.

Luckily I visited in September of 2019, just before Covid.

Hi Carol Anne, thank you so much for the tip about Asia SF. I went last night and it was so welcoming. Great food and lovely people. And wow can those TG girls dance and put on a show.

Unmissable.

Thank you!
