A question for non-British readers

Printer-friendly version

In the UK, we use a special symbol to represent the British pound (monetary, not weight), shown here. Pound sign.jpg

The symbol has an ASCII character and is produced on UK keyboards by pressing Shift 3, and is used in the same way as the dollar sign, to represent a monetary sum eg  £10.

My question is, on the line above, do non-British readers correctly see the pound symbol before the 10 (ie similar to the picture at the top), or do they see something entirely different?
