Taxonomy upgrade extras:

I still have 1 discount code for Windows 8 Professional upgrade that will let you get Windows 8 for $15. The offer expires at the end of the month. Send me a PM if you want it. I'm not selling it or Windows, this is straight from Microsoft.

Argh ¡¡

I still havent got that to install. Apparently something in my windows 7 machine is making the upgrade have kittens.

Not the installer but the unpacker ..

Installing

I used the installer/upgrade program (don't remember what its called anymore) to make an ISO file that I burned to a DVD so I could boot and do a clean install. I don't like upgrade installs as they always seem to have issues.

I got a chance to

I got a chance to play around with Windows 8 a few weeks after the release and I think I'd rather stick with 7. I don't much care for Windows 8 and truthfully I would probably abandon Windows altogether if Netflix wold just provide support for Linux.

Have delightfully devious day,

Win 8 is another gemic like Vista

I personally think WIn 8 is just another Microsoft mistake wiating to happen. I mean the only way to fully get the full experience out of Win 8 is to have a multi-point touchscreen device (like a tablet) or a very expensive monitor. I mean when a 23" 1080p monitor cost $500 and that is the cheap one it is ludacrist just for a touch screen capability. I feel that in Microsoft's attempt to make Win 8 the universal OS between devices they have over concentrated on a few of the types at the expense of the rest. Yes Tablets are nice and people want them but people still want fully functional computers as well like notebooks and desktops. The only reason so many people want Tablets right now is because it is the new device on the block. I think microsoft might learn the error of thier ways in the next release witch I am holding out for. And it really ticks me off that they are not offering stand alone install retail boxes anymore, you can sign up for a specail license that will let you as an individual use up to 5 OEM version to do a clean install on a new build but that is it.

This is why I so love my Macbook Pro now even though for some games and work programs I have to use boot camp and dual boot with windows 7 so be it for a notebook. I still prefer to build my Desktop machines my self though I get the Specs I want and at a much better cost for a gaming machine than paying the bloated prices to the big computer companies and hoping to get driver support for more than a year or two. At least when I build it I can tweek the machine when ever I want and not have to worry about voiding a warranty.

Win 8

In the 2 months I used it, I never used the 'new' desktop for anything. I spent all my time on the 'old desktop' and used it like Windows 7. Windows 8 DOES boot a lot faster, but it lost a lot of the visual elegance of Windows 7 and Vista. It also seemed to get hung up more often in the two months than Windows 7 does in a year.

I don't regret using a discount code to buy it from MS directly for $15 though. I think it is worth having a legitimate copy if there is ever a real future need to use it. The lack of interest in it is extreme. I had 2 extra codes aside from the one I used, and only gave away one of them.

If I ran a business, I would never consider switching and having to retrain an entire workforce on a new interface. Why they couldn't have just made it a choice is beyond me. However I'm happy back on Windows 7, and I have Windows 8 Pro if I ever need it.

I see your point.

I currently dual boot on my desktop Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and windows XP Professional just for some old games I like to play that do not work well on Vista or 7.

If I am going to put 8 on a system it will probably be a new build, and I will pay the extra money to get the OEM licensing for my self for the up to 5 copies for personal use. So i can do a clean install with 8 from the get go. And I would do the Professional version of 8, I know for a fact that I always buy the best version of an OS because it usually is more stable than the lesser version and has more features.
