I got the partial report for the blood work from last Friday. As a result, I am taking new medication for the chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia (more on that later). Because I haven't been able to gain control over the Type II Diabetes, I am now taking Insulin via a pre-loaded injection pen instead of medication.
Some good news. I don't have Multiple Sclerosis, which my immunologist had feared, nor do I have Lupus. The concern had arisen from the fibro and chronic fatigue, which pretty much mirror symptomatically Lupus and MS, but to a much lesser and temporary degree.
The real problem lies with my immune system. The chronic fatigue arises from an increased percentage of the presence of the HHV-6 virus, which is in the same family as herpes, chickenpox, and shingles. The results from that portion of the test haven't been completed yet, but the lack of any relief from the symptoms already indicate no improvement at best. The new medication is supposed to help with sleep, which in turn will help the immune system fight off the virus. That is a symptomatic treatment only; I have already taken valtrex as an anti-viral course, but it didn't do much good. At this point, it's diet, exercise, and rest that will ultimately make or break it.
For those of you who may have been required to receive inoculations while traveling abroad, you may be familiar with the following. My IGG - Immunogammaglobulin is very low, and may require a supplement.
The bottom line is that I am tired and very achy all the time; imagine having the flu 24/7. But the good news is that as I get stronger, my own system will ultimately be what gets things back in control. And please remember that I'm doing so much better than I was. I have the best medical and therapeutic help anyone could ask for. I have a supportive and loving family. And I have you folks, for which I am supremely grateful and filled with hope. i do so treasure your support and encouragement and I'm blessed by your thoughts and prayers. So thank you once again. Love you! Andrea

We Are Pulling For You
I know that the shingles vaccine suppresses the herpes virus that is currently in the system. Any thoughts that it might help suppress the viruses in your system? Here's something for you to listen to before getting ready for bed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_hUBufUp2w. Riposare bene, piccolo angelo.

Dear Drea,
Since you say that your immune system could use some help and you haven't been offered a medication to help that situation, I thought of a herbal immune booster that I've taken.
It was slower than (an effective) antibiotic, but I got rid of a nagging bronchitis that antibiotics did not touch. I've also used it, just a few droppers, when I was afraid I was getting sick, then I felt better. This stuff is called ZAND (brand) Insure Immune Support. It's a water and alcohol tincture of 17 herbs; it's in a 4 oz. bottle with a rubber bulb dropper in the cap. Dose is 1 dropper up to 8 times a day. You could buy it on line or in health food stores. I wouldn't recommend something like this, except that it's worked for me.
It might help you get better, my poor lil' sis! All my love and concern,
Hugs and Bright Blessings,
Renee

Hang in there, Andrea. I'm
Hang in there, Andrea. I'm sure you will get stronger and feel better than you do now.
My mom had to use insulin for her diabetes, and achieved very good blood sugar control. It's a miracle drug, really. She tested 3-4 times a day and kept track of what she ate, and adjusted her insulin dose based on that. One big concern is to be careful to eat enough after taking insulin to avoid very low blood sugar. Hypoglycemia can creep up on you so that you just don't realize how bad it's getting. Always have a source of sugar (glucose tablets) close at hand.
All my best,
Kris

I know about insulin
I am an insulin dependent diabetic. I take 100 units a day of Novalog 70/30.
Before I got my blood sugers under ontrol, I was tired all the time.
The high levels of blood surger sap your strength. So that may be part of
the fatigue. I will add you to my prayers at church on Sunday. Not that
I can not during the week but at church on Sunday I feel a stronger connection
to God!! Also I will ask my congregation to remember you in their prayers!!
Il dio benedice il mio bambino e spero che ottenga migliore per voi!!
