I Was A Victim Of Mistaken Identity Today

Today we had a woman reported missing here in town. The 911 dispatch center put out a bulletin using the phone system with a description of the lady and said that her likely destination was the next street over from ours. Anyway, I told my mother and she thought it might be a good idea if I walked around the block to see if I could find her. I did that and didn't see her, so I turned around and headed back to my house. I had gone out and come back through the garage door. I wasn't home 5 minutes when the police came to my door. Apparently, I bore a partial resemblance to the woman and someone reported that they thought that she was the one who was seen going in through our garage. The police officer kind of freaked me out when I told him my name and he asked me for my I.D. Mine is totally legal, but it still makes me nervous. Anyway, Mom came down and verified that I was her daughter. It just scared me because I have been lucky to have passed pretty well for these last 6 years and I just didn't know how the officer was going to treat me. I do have a friend who is a Lieutenant in the PD that I have known since 4th grade and he knows my status and is okay with it. I just didn't know if this guy was a total professional or turn out to be a bigot. Our city doesn't have a fairness ordinance, so it is an uneasy situation where I have to be on guard to make sure I don't draw too much attention.

No harm done

So it seems. We all get these 'near misses', don't we? I'm glad everything turned out all right in the end.

Looking at what you wrote, there's definite potential for a story there. Why don't you see what you can do?
