Did you add in the heat
Did you add in the heat index yet? Remember that Death Valley has basically zero moisture.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
So do we
Don't have FW's numbers handy, but in Okla. our humidity has been at 15% or less.

Our Humidity Has to Be Pretty Low for It to Get Really Hot
The Weather Channel says the humidity is at 20% in North Texas right now. 106 Deg F feels like 105 Deg F.
That's high for around here
Our humidity is generally around 6 to 10%. If it gets up to 20, people start complaining. Lately, it's been above fifty! Oh, well, it IS raining at the time. :)

Erin

A miss that doesn't matter
About 250 miles north of you our high was 113 degrees. Maybe not as warm as Death Valley, but that single degree gives me scant comfort.

110 F at 5:15 and 113 F at 6:10 earlier, down to 101 now and 78% humidity so, um, 121 heat index...

Hot!
I was visiting Memphis, TN today, and left to return home around 1:30. The lowest temperature I saw on my return to Little Rock was 100 degrees as I crossed the Mississippi. It was 109 along I-40 by the time I reached North Little Rock.
The hottest temperature ever officially recorded in the US was in Death Valley at 134 degrees. Death Valley frequently records minimum temperatures over 100 during the summer. I think the coldest temperature in North America was 88 below zero at Dawson in the NW Territory. I'll have to check on that. My father was a meteorologist, and he was very interested in weather history. There are some records indicating that it hit close to 140 in Santa Barbara back in the mid 19th century. 140 was also unofficially recorded at Amboy, California. I think that was early 20th century. Boca, Bodie, and Bridgeport, California have all recorded temperatures below 40 below zero. I think Truckee might be in that group, too.

PS: The coldest was in Snag in the Yukon Territory at 81 below. It was in February 1947.

Kinda makes me glad I moved
from Phoenix. Sonoma county California has a high today of 83F. Looks like it'll cool down to the mid-70s by the end of the week.
Just remember this heat next winter when it's below freezing.
