I was hoping you would get back to this! I love "A Walk In The Dark". I was reading some Whatley stories where one of the characters is a Drow, and I couldn't help but think of Dahlia. This makes my night!

This dilemma reminds me of an old saying.
I'm pretty sure i got the wording wrong, but the idea is as follows:
If you want ultimate power, you wont be fit for it.
If you're fit for ultimate power, you wont want it.
I think she might be a reluctant but very suitable goddess, always double checking her decisions to see if she's doing right, not wanting to exert her power, but seeing the need to and probably be unable to do nothing..

Well, I'd introduce atheism to my followers :D
Seriously, I'D just tell my followers that gods are just normal people who are empowered by the worship of other people. Getting them to use their worship energies for things more usefull for themselves than empowering a drow godess.
I think explanation and understanding reduces reverence. She'd just need to explain them how gods work and people would probably stop worship.
People worship the mystic, not something they know how it works.
What if you found that you're a goddess...

A Goddess?
Oh crap. A little cadre of trustees, fawning sycophants, bloody martyrs, humble servants, useless acolytes, scheming priests and priestesses, adoring masses and worst of all, bloody atheists. Not to mention snotty elders sitting back and offering advice and criticism. Sounds like hard work to me. I'm sure being so even tempered all will be well though. Wisdom, that sorta stuff. No worries.

Well, you know my mom's a godddess and dads a god and like ...
they want me to go into the family business. Ghah! Can you believe it? I mean how old fashioned can they be?

So good to hear you are continuing this.
Technically, unless they have a specific niche, say the patron goddess of auto mechanics, I would think a goddess can do pretty much as she wishes. But then in many traditions a god/goddess gets power from her worshipers so she may not have a choice. Unless she wishes to remain weak and a target of other rival gods such as her uncle.
And we already have had big trouble from her uncle. Even her half sister/brother fell afoul of him, thus the duality. I think she may go into it kicking and screaming at the injustice of it all but she will have to take up the mantle of a goddess if not only to protect herself but to protect others. If uncle nasty can't attack her directly he will try her followers or worst of all her lover.

Those calendars had all the *subtlety* of naming a restaurant with ho-hum food served by hot young busty waitresses in very tight and skimpy uniforms Hooters but those calendar girls. Whoa momma! And why to I have a sudden craving for overpriced so-so spicy chicken wings?

Hum, if she's a full goddess, not a demi goddess, could she help her brother/sister become two whole individuals? I suspect daddy or mom could but are not for some reason, perhaps Uncle Jupiter is Circe's lover or patron god?
But our new girl is not inclined to consider uncle's feelings so... Hum, Circe, I think you are about to get a dose of your own *medicine* from one very pissed off new goddess.

You might take a look at Piers Anthony's series "The Incarnations of Immortality"... He has folks "waking up" and discovering they're gods - each book focuses on a different deity. You might find some "ideas" for your story.

We all have a bit of the divine within us.
At First I Thought: BS...
But after 5 seconds, I agree with MsChristine. Whatever is divine, physical, spiritual, etc., it/she/he/e/they must have some connection to RL, and so to the physical universe, for us to know anything about them. So if the divine is of the universe, or just our galaxy, our solar system, or just of the Earth, we are part of them. We are from the results of the Big Bang, we are from supernovas that exploded before our solar system was formed. We are from the gas and dust that pulled together and formed the sun, the planets and all the other strange solar system stuff; possibly even extra solar system matter that hit the Earth as meteorites. Finally, we are of the Earth; the Earth "grew" life and we are part of that life.

Heh. How is being a goddess
Different from being a politician, and how is it similar? Different scenery, same basic concepts and pissing contests. The only real difference it would be for Dahlia is that if she was a powerful politician, courtesy of Mom, she will be a minor goddess on the new scene.
I guess the dilemma will likely be shrugged off with "what-is-the-big-deal-not-like-anything-really-changed-you-know" expreession. She already has things to deal with on her plate. :P
