Many of you are aware that I severely broke my arm in November of 2009. Many of you are aware that before that time, I had the ability to type quite fast and efficiently -- in excess of 120 words per minute. And... most who are aware of both are also aware that when I was done with PT, I lamented the loss of over 65% of that speed. |
I tested myself today for the first time in over a year, and my speed has gone back up to average at 58. It's still a far cry, but it makes me happy to know that I'm almost back up to half. |

I am glad
to see there is some recovery going on. Keep at it. That is the only way to get any better at all. While working, several years ago, I was trying to prevent a mental patient from trying to hang himself. My hand got crushed in a steel doorframe by his weight, and as soon as I was able to force the door open, we secured him and I went down to ER. The Xray showed the knuckle of my ring finger had split open in a "V" so they secured it in a brace and I carried on. This happened at Easter time, and I was on limited duty until it had healed and went back regular at Thanksgiving. The ring and little finger and "frozen" in the brace position and they had to inject cortisone straight into the tendon sheath to free them. Then all the physical therapy. I wound up with a 10% disability, for loss of use I got 400.00 one time. I still cannot carry a 5 pound bag of sugar in the hand, and I drop stuff all the time. Obviously, it takes years sometimes to recover from things like this. I hope you continue to get better.
That's good to hear...
I expect that you'll be able to get it much the rest of the way up there, given time and exercises. (It's just finding the fine control exercises that's hard.
Glad to hear it's up there. I recall back in the mid '80s where 60 wpm typing was good enough to get paid typing as a Kelly Girl (yes, I was one! LOL)
Good Luck,
Anne
Moderate excercise, hot packs, cold packs.
Working construction, you get a few injuries. You also learn to anticipate what the Physical Therapy folks are gonna tell you.
When I first took Military tests, they said I would never learn to type or do morse code. Now days, I type about 40-60 but never did learn morse code.
Much peace

Congrats on that. I hope
Congrats on that. I hope things continue to get better.

I can empathize
in April of 1987 I had surgery for caarpel tunnel release on my left hand. Until surgery I had 100 percent use of my left hand. After surgery do to errors on anesthetics I had severe pain. When I went to the Naval hospital in Bethesda I was treated and evaluated. I have only 9% use of my left hand.
I've learned to compensate and unless you know me you would not know i have limited capability of my left hand.
You are now in my prayers for getting your arm to be fully healed and the return of your typing speed.
I can do 120 words a minute but they all look alien to me, I'm good at 45 wpm;
