Is it just me?

This link isn't working for me, it says the document can't be found?

works for me

Maybe it's a Chrome thing.

Maybe it's a Chrome thing. I tried again and it still didn't work, so I tried it with Safari and it came up fine.

I got it fine on Chrome...but Chrome tends to be glitchy a lot.

the site

is written to work with IE so if it doesn't work on other generic web browsers i'm sorry but i neither have the time or resources to fix it.

It usually does.

Not sure why it didn't this time. But that's why I keep four different browsers installed on my computers. Thankfully I don't usually have to resort to IE, I've had a lot of problems with it and prefer to avoid it entirely.

Thanks for another lovely Gabisode, by the way! :)

Firefox

Always worked fine for me with Firefox...

...and Linux! Chrome and Epiphany work as well (Webkit based). I would try Midori (also Webkit) but it doesn't want to load today :(

Oh, and Lynx is happy as well (unsurprisingly, since it's a text-mode browser!)

Nice...

Sounds like a fun party. *sighs* I can't remember the last time I was invited to a costume party. *sighs*

In any event. Interesting things happening. Max sounds like he's acting almost human on this.

Thanks,

Penultimate?

The end of this section, or the end of the whole saga?

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

If I understood Maddy correctly

Angharad's picture

she said at the Gabycon, that she had ideas for Book 8, so that means the end of Book 7.

Angharad

PS thanks Mads for my weekly fix of Gaby.

Thank you very much. After

Thank you very much. After the previous issues with your site, I was a bit... concerned, shall we say?

Again, many thanks, and I've enjoyed all your work.

penultimate?

I dunno about penultimate... but it sure was short.

The 'dance' was built up in a bunch of episodes...wouldn't call them chapters.

first we suggested
then we planned
then at least 2 shopping trips
then when the dance happens... a paragraph in past tense.

I was sooo disappointed by the brevity.

I used to enjoy the gaby tale... I jumped like a cat on a bird on every chapter that was posted... but as time went on it became an ongoing bike race with a salt and pepper dash of character development. It became a travelogue and I became more and more disappointed.

I'm sure I'm a lone voice in a wind of support, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Nobody.

I respectfully disagree

A lot of Maddy's stories have had the "travelogue" feel to certain parts; I believe this is due to her own love of travel and wish to share the local flavor of the areas she's seen in her works, so while at times it can be a bit distracting, it is an oddity that I am more than willing to give her leeway for. And while the dance was built up for a long time and then more or less glossed over, that is less of an issue for me as well, since some times the preparations for major events are more noteworthy than the events themselves from an emotional viewpoint -- after all, we have had numerous dances and such described for us throughout the Gaby saga, and Drew's focus has always been more on the preparation for them than the dances themselves even in the first book.

Personally, I've been quite happy with the Gaby series recently if for no other reason than because it feels as though Maddy has decided on a route to take it. There was a while there between about the middle to end of the fourth book and the middle of the sixth book when things seemed to stagnate somewhat, almost as though she were unsure which route to take with Drew. This most recent book she seems to have made her intentions clear as to how she's taking things, and if she were to decide to wrap the saga up, she could probably manage it in one to two more books. At this point, I would like to see her at the very least follow Drew's journey of finding him/herself to the end.

There is also a perspective

to consider; the Gabystories are told primarily in the first person, so what is important to Drew is what he tells and how he tells it. For those of us who cycle, it is way of participating in some the characters experiences. I'm never likely to go to anything Manga, let alone wear any of the bizarre outfits they do - but I can ride a bike.

What makes the stories almost unique, is that no matter how female Drew becomes, and how much people see him in that way, inside he still sees himself as male and at times is almost in a F to M situation. It's this disparity and his coping strategies which give charm to the stories, plus of course the charm of the writer.
